There's no answer, so you press the bell button again, however still no one opens the door. You feel both a little disappointed and relieved now. All that getting up of your courage was quite pointless, but at least you don't have to deal with Tora, there's no telling what she would do if you walked straight into her lair.
"Ross?!" You suddenly hear a surprised voice next to you.
You turn to it and are shocked for a second because it looks like death itself is standing before you. The person who said your name just now, wears a black hoodie and you can't really see the face underneath. They are also wearing jeans and a pair of sneakers. That person also seems a head shorter than you.
In the end, you just look at the hooded figure in confusion.
"Wow, you are even dumber than I remembered you." Says the figure in a somewhat irritated tone, however this time you can hear that the voice is clearly feminine.
"Um... who are you?" You finally ask.
At this moment the person looks up, and you are able to see the face under the hood. It's definitely a female, maybe not beautiful but not unattractive either. She seems to have bags under her blue eyes, implying that she didn't sleep enough today. You also see some strands of unkempt long red hair coming from under the hood.
"Figures... Who would remember a girl whose life he ruined?" She says in a sarcastic tone.
Then a realization comes to your mind. You do know her! Actually she was your girlfriend in high school, after Tora broke up with you for the first time there. She was in the same class as you. Her name is Nichole, although she always preferred to be called Nicky, because her full name sounds "too French!". In the end however, you were only going out for a month, because later Tora suddenly decided she wants to get back together with you, and you were unable to refuse... Nicky seemed to be quite heartbroken by your breakup, she stopped coming to school, and you never heard of her again, until now at least.
"Nicky?! Is that you?" You ask.
"You finally realized. Please wait while I prepare a damn celebratory feast." She says in an obviously sarcastic tone, while taking out a cigarette and starting to smoke it.
"I'm pretty sure that you can't smoke in the corridors here..." You say.
"I'm pretty sure that you aren't here to bitch about my smoking habits." She replies in sarcastic tone and keeps smoking.
"Um... how have you been?" You ask a bit awkwardly.
"Just peachy. After overcoming the depression that your breaking up with me caused, I decided that it's a waste of time to socialize with people, now I spend my time playing video-games, watching anime, and I also design websites for a living." She says in a not very invested tone.
"Oh..." You say, a sudden feeling of guilt appears in your mind.
"And why are you here? Still going out with Tora?" She asks.
"Nah, I have another girlfriend. Tora just sent me a message today, and I wanted to talk to her about it." You answered honestly.
"And what? You will get back with her like you usually do? I hope that at least your current girlfriend wasn't so stupid to give you her virginity." Says Nicky, puffing out some smoke from time to time.
You honestly have no idea whether you were Lizzie's first, you never talked about it with her, it seems very unlikely though considering she is year older than you, and she probably has had boyfriends in the past. With Nicky however you are fairly sure that you were... the fact that you broke up with her a week later probably didn't help things.
"I'm really sorry Nicky..." You apologize, even though you did so during the breakup too.
"Ha, what do I have from your apologies? Besides, it's all in the past now, water under the bridge." Says Nicky as she finishes her cigarette.
