Chapter #5

A classic board game

    by: PlayerOne Author IconMail Icon
As you look around the board game shelf, you spot a board game called "Oziphuge". Taking the box out, you examine the back of the box.

Oziphuge, a game for those who seek to change the world around them. You roll the dice to move your piece forward. Doubles get to roll again. The first player to reach the end wins.

Underneath this, in small red writing reads:

Warning: Do not play this game unless you plan to complete it. All changes created by this game will only vanish when a player reaches the end of the game and asks for all players to return to normal.

You decide that this game sounds exactly like what you need to make your family game night more interesting. Suddenly behind you appears a strange man in a crimson coat, with a grey, knotted beard, and a walking stick with a large emerald on it. "So," he begins quietly, his voice sounding as though it had not been used in ages, "I see that the game has chosen another party to play its wretched sport."

"What?" you ask, "I just picked this game out at random."

"Don't you see boy?" The old man calmly explains, "Nothing is truly at random. This game has chosen you to alter the course of the world as we know it. The last time this cursed game was played, it took nearly 2 years to beat, all the while humanity was dragged through hundreds of forms. I cannot allow you, in good conscious to purchase this game. Please return it to the shelf at once."

You stare at this strange man, whom you assume to be the owner of the store. You weren't sure if all he said was true, but you know that if it was so strange that he refuses to sell it to you, you know that it has to be the game you play for family game night. "Okay..." you say dejectedly, hoping to trick the old man into believing you don't care anymore. You place the game back on the shelf.

"Very good. Now, if you have anymore questions about an of the objects in this store, or wish to buy something else, simply call out and I will come assist you." In a puff of smoke, the old man vanishes from view. You pretend to look at a couple of the other board games on the shelf, before quickly grabbing Oziphuge and making a run for the exit. As you get closer to the door, you hear a voice in your head say, "I'm sorry that I could not dissuade you from your purchase, but be warned, there will be major repercussions for your actions."

You arrive back at your house, just in time for your family's game night to begin. "Well," says your Dad, "You all ready to play Monopoly?" Your two sisters and younger brother groan.

"Wait!" you interject, "Look what I found at the mall." You pull out the game from behind your back. "I thought we would have a better time playing this instead. Your Dad and Mom look hesitant at first, but you and your siblings manage to let you all play the game.

You set the board game up, being worried at first, as you only saw 4 pieces when you had opened the box earlier, but now found 6 pieces in the box, each eerily similar to a member of your family. The board itself was rather plain, being plain white with 100 white spaces to move onto and a central screen to get instructions from, but you assumed that it would change as well as the game went along.

You and your family position yourselves around the game board. To be specific, the order, going clockwise went you (18); your older sister, Mattie (21); your mom, Rebecca (45); your dad (50), Tom; followed by your twin younger brother and sister, Taylor and Tyler (15).

You go first, rolling a 4 and 2 for a combined roll of 6 spaces. When you place your piece on the sixth space, the screen in the center of the board begins to form words. The words read

You have the following choices:

1. Penalty! Lose a limb of your opponents choice.

*Pen*
2. Switch with the person to your left (Mattie).

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
