Chapter #6

The spider gods that left

    by: Redstreak Author IconMail Icon
My planet formed only a few million years before yours. After it cool down life formed in the oceans, as it usually does. After a nearly 3 million years of blobs complex life got started a rapidly diversified. The colonisation of land was first down by various types of Arthropod like beings. The continent spanning forests of our worlds raised oxygen to the 40% it is now. Unlike on your planet it stayed that high. This allowed us to grow to my sort of sizes. This oxygen also helped us be faster and stronger and more evolutionarily fit in nearly everyway. None arthropods never has a chance to climb the food chain. Once spiders can silk they adapted to fill nearly all the niches. By ancestors where an omnivorous lineage. We focused on meat, fruit, nuts, fish and other nutritionally dense foods. As our guts shortened are brains were free to grow, and they did.

They then from complex social systems and every more complex hunting strategies. This pushed our brains sizes ever higher, Without having to worry about childbirth and having braincases to hold them in our brains grew much bigger, so big my other organs were pushed into my legs. We soon developed farming and civilisation and, as it the pattern nearly all the time, war. Our society got quite close to wiping itself out when a meteor filled with fungal spore beings entered our planet. Our whole society then focused on looking after them as they grew up and then getting them home. Without wasting effort on war technology advanced quickly and we got to interstellar space flight in just a couple of centuries and got them all home.

Then being from all over came to us for help. We tried to help as many as we could, but the universe was too big and we were too small. So we researched new technology, we needed to be stronger, faster, bigger. It worked and we found the source of the potential energy from which the universe and many many other were created. We now had infinite power. We grew and grew and grew until we filled all the universe, each of us was tens of millions of light years across. We held all the galaxies and kept them safe and happy, it was a golden age that lasted for millions of years.

But 225 million years ago their was problem. We disagreed on whether it was right to ascend beings to sapience. We could not which an agreement, and our species was spilt. Then one of us hated for just moment, but them your tens of millions of light years across a moment is far too much, a tiny part of that hatred leaked out but it was enough to drown the souls of billions of worlds, which erupted into mass extinction causing hatred and violence.

All of Us, including myself amongst them were wracked with heart crushing guilt. Nearly all of our species suicided, many nebulas you see our the remains of that. I was nearly joined them but I wouldn't let myself get off that easy. Those who decided to live retreated to our homeworld, to keep out of the affairs of the universe less we slip again.

"That's really really dumb" said Frang "if you make a mistake you fix it as best your can and max sure it doesn't happen again, you just ran away".

"Your probably right," said the watcher "more and more of us are pushing to end the isolation. We have been watching the universe, recording every crime and disaster, all the thing we could of, should over perhaps, stopped. We manage to get permission to help those that are completely and irreversibly cut off from their own civilisations, that way our effects on the universe are minimised. People in this movement was been watching for those that take the undirected dimensional jump your just did and rescued them, and quite possibly the planet they would end up on too."

"Some of that movement will want to meet your eventually. It had wait as long as you want."

"But is their anything you want first" asked the watch. "You can go anywhere on this planet or it three moons"
