In the distance they herd the sounds of doors being broken down and then a bunch of very angry people tearing a house apart. It was getting closer. They had nowhere to go.

"This is it, we have to use the jump drive. If we stay hear we will definitely die," said Arron to his family.

They were gather in a coal cellar. It was completely dark. There dare not have any light. They had got used to it over the last few weeks. Arron had transcribed all this most important research books into braille so he could still continue this project. Between enough supplies to keep them alive for 3 year and the project there was barely for the five of them to move.

The hiders were.

Arron, 73 years old.

This wife, Shelia. The two were just about the only people smart enough for each other. There marriage proposal was when they both swapped mathematical papers in favour of it.

They had two children, Frang a boy of 6 and Sus and Ten year old girl. They were also geniuses.

Mutt a pygmy Woolly mammoth they been training rescue people lost in blizzards until the army made the project about using it cause avalanches for military purposes. As far as they knew it died in an anti GMO attack.

"So were finally leaving earth, about time" said Frang

"How far along is fixing the steering problem," asked Sus

"No Progress, we'll be jumping blind," admitted Arron

"So there's no way of ever going back," deduced Sus

"Yes," confirmed Arron

"Well this planet sucked anyway," commented Frang

"and the next one will definitely be better," hoped Sus

"Where we end up were the best people to learn about it" said Shelia

Mutt tapped out a message in Morse code with his trunk "Happy if with friends."

Arron then readied the device. It was combination of submarine, escape Pod and nuclear bunker. They were very few things it could not project the passengers from. The jump device was actually very small and simple (for them anyway). What it did was warp them to random other spot in the universe which had the same gravitational potential energy. This it didn't have to climb out the earths gravity well it actually required very very little energy to do a jump. The same amount of mass from wherever they were jumping too would take the place of springer. This mass was usually the atmosphere of a planet. This required the smallest of energy to severe any non gravitational ties it had to where it was from. Fluids of various shorts were quite common as was dust. There was even a few example of alien life that was swapped in. Anything that would require cutting or breaking off something was very rare.

They climbed in, they sealed off everything. As the noise of their hunters got one door closer Arron pressed the button and they jumped.
