This choice: (Tim’s Perspective) Continue on with Dr. Kerry • Go Back...Chapter #9(Tim’s Perspective) Continue on with Dr. Kerry by: Jenny Amara (Note: this chapter returns to Tim’s perspective)
A dozen or so minutes after your father had left you heard a knock at the hospital room door as it gently opened. Dr. Kerry stepped in with a look of validation on his face knowing that you had summarily been put in your place by your parents. You felt like shit over how you had treated him too so he was justified in his vindication. Dr. Kerry started to speak but you just had to apologize, “I’m so sorry for how I behaved Dr. Kerry. I hope you can forgive me.” You lowered your head in shame as he continued to move closer by you in the room.
“No need Tim, I totally understand. Let’s just say… you weren’t yourself for a minute there and were ready to move on now,” Dr. Kerry said with a slight chuckle at his joke.
“Heh, I guess you could say that,” you said while scratching your head in a similarly comedic fashion trying to match his energy to dissolve the tension between you.
“Good, well let’s get down to business. I understand you father told you about how you are now the patriarch of the family and that will carry extra responsibility. In the short term the hospital is prepared to help cover costs as you learn your father’s trade and life’s details. It will be a strenuous period so we are doing our best to keep things simple for you early on.”
“I get that I’m in my Dad’s body, and that makes me an adult… But what is this about being a patriarch?”
“It means the head of the house Tim. You’re going to be responsible for working and providing for your family from now on.”
“Holy shit! Really? That is kind of a lot of responsibility to just drop on a person”
“Yes, we understand that and your parents do too. We’re hoping that taking approximately 6 months will be enough time for you to socialize and adapt to this change.”
“6 months? That’s a lot of time for a teenager, but I mean that’s barely anytime compared to my Dad’s whole life, right?”
“True, but you’ll only really need to become familiar deeply with a few previous years or even months. Plus, there will be plenty of support around you. Your dad is completely committed to this and I’m sure he will do everything he can to make your family fully functional.”
“I guess… I still can’t get over this new body though. I have stubble, my chest is freaking huge and I’m so freaking muscular. Like all over. It’s going to take me a while just to get used to being taller even.”
“That’s fair Tim, you do have a lot of adjusting to account for. Please let me know how I can help you. For now I’ll leave you to… well… take stock of your current situation. I’m just a phone call away, don’t hesitate to ask for me directly.”
“Thanks doc,” you said and Dr. Jerry excused himself. Now that you were alone again you decided to really get a good look at yourself so you made your way to your private bathroom in the hospital room. You fumbled around in the dark trying to find the lights. “Dammit, where are they?” You said as you stumbled into what felt like a sink. You ran your hands against the wall and finally found the light switch. Flipping this on you could now see yourself in the mirror. You weren’t sure what you had expected. You knew that you’d see your father’s face stare back at you but the moment it finally happened you had a rush of emotions hit you. You’d just lost like 25 years of your life. Your childhood was over.
Every move you made was a made by the reflection as well but it felt like an out of body experience. In your mind you were still the driver of your teenaged boy body. This reflection was not a child’s, it was definitely a man’s. Broad shoulders, chiseled face, a degree more stubble than you were used to seeing on your father’s face, muscles in places you didn’t know you had… This was a lot of change but you felt strangely good with it, powerful even. You honestly felt like you could take on the world, maybe even make some waves and change some things for the better. As you continued inspecting yourself you heard a voice call out your name.
Next thing you know the bathroom door is starting to open, so you…
