This choice: Your girlfriend, Allison received the transplant. • Go Back...Chapter #7Your girlfriend, Allison received the transplant. by: Wassel "...Your girlfriend, Allison. She was the one who's injuries were the most severe."
Oh my God... Allison!? you thought on hearing her name. Not being able to help but gasp. Remembering how she'd been sitting right next to you when the accident had happened. And, despite what he'd just said, you still couldn't help but be worried.
Which was why he once again assured you that she was perfectly fine. Awake even, and anxious to see you. This last little tidbit finally succeeding in calming you down.
Though you did have to ask, in reference to all of the top secret military stuff, "And does she... Does she know about Project Godzilla?"
"Gargantua," Kerry corrected you. "And yes, yes she does. We told her everything that we told you. Again, for insurance purposes. But she is the only other person who does."
"As far as both of your families are aware," Saunders chimed in then. Stepping forward, "She suffered a serious head trauma in the car crash and we were forced to perform a new and experimental surgery to save her life."
Wow, you thought. This is nuts! The two of you being the only ones who knew what had really happened. Having, in your four years of being boyfriend and girlfriend, had your fair share of secrets that you shared. But nothing like this. Imagining that it was going to be pretty tough keeping it to yourselves. But then, you had already agreed. As unethical and strange as this whole thing seemed.
"But as we've said before, there is really nothing to worry about," Kerry again assured you. "She's fine, you're fine, everyone is fine. Plus, for agreeing to take part in the surgery, her family will of course be given monetary compensation. Which Mr. and Mrs. Lowry (Allison's parents) have already offered to put towards your parents new car. Which is very kind of them both."
Not being surprised at all by this. They were very kind people. And they really had raised one hell of a daughter. Whom you obviously loved to bits.
And so, after going into a little further detail about the procedure and then signing their NDA, you received a visit from your family. All of whom were extremely glad to see you and you them. Though the person that you really wanted was to see Allison. Needing to wait for the drugs to work their way through your system before you could do so. Which took another hour and a half. After which you were finally able to get up and walk. Immediately making your way across the corridor towards Allison's room. Finding her laying there in the bed, looking a little battered and bruised perhaps, but not too much. Looking pretty healthy it had to be said. The doctors having apparently used an extremely non evasive surgery technique to disguise any evidence of what they'd done. And even if they hadn't, there was no disguising that beautiful face of hers. Her blue eyes widening and her face breaking into one of her trademark smiles as soon as she saw you. Putting her arms out then for a hug. Which you gladly gave. Happy to see that she was alive.
The two of you spending the next hour chatting then. About everything that had happened. About how crazy it was that she was the one to end up getting brain surgery of all people. Allison even making a joke about how, "If anyone needed their brain taken out and replaced with someone else's, it was Randall!" Your best friend. Who was admittedly a bit of a goof and the two of them did have a bit of a turbulent relationship. Allison not really appreciating some of the more crazier comments that he made.
"Yeah, you're probably right," you agreed. "You're the last person who's brain needs fixing. Cause you're perfect just the way you are."
This provoking a little giggle, as well as causing her cheeks to flush. Which you always enjoyed seeing. It looking so damn cute when she laughed. And it still amazed you after all this time that you'd actually snagged her. Allison being too good for you in a way. What with her being blonde, blue eyed, slim and athletic. Not to mention a cheerleader to boot. Having everything going for her. Other than perhaps a few extra inches in height and slightly bigger boobs (hers being little more than a B cup). Thinking to yourself with a chuckle, Shame that Project Gargantuan didn't work. She might have ended up as a busty six foot Adonis!
Not that you were serious about this of course. It was instead just a little fantasy you sometimes had. Not wanting to change her for the world.
* * * *
Not long after your visit with Allison you were discharged that very same day. Returning home with your family and having to wait another two until Allison did the same. The doctors telling her to take things easy for a while. Which meant that she was going to miss the first of school. This being good news for her and bad news for you. Having Randall to hang out with sure, but it wasn't quite the same. You and your girlfriend being virtually inseparable, and you felt kind of bummed when she wasn't there. Missing holding hands with her as you walked through the corridors and making out nearly every chance you got. Having a pretty affectionate relationship with one another. One that you'd been hoping to take to the next level soon. A little boob groping being as far as you had gotten so far.
Not that you didn't still speak with her every single day. Over the phone or through text, or go visit her after school. Discovering that she had grown rather bored of hanging around the house with nothing much to do. Which was funny, cause that would pretty much be your dream. Imagining all the Xbox you could play. Which, try as you might to get her into, video games simply were not her thing. Allison being way more of a social creature than you were. And, as well as she got on with her mom, spending all day every day with her was proving a bit of a chore also. Leading her to text you on the Friday afternoon. Needing you to come get her out of the house for a while before she went stir crazy. Opening the door when you got there and suddenly noticing something different about her. Something that you definitely hadn't noticed the last time that you'd seen her; Which was her height. She was taller. Or certainly looked it at least. Allison having always been around about 5' 4" and you 5' 10", but standing in front of her now you could have swore she'd grown an extra couple of inches. Her head reaching just the little bit higher as you hugged. Which seemed kind of odd. Especially as she wasn't wearing heels or boots that would account for this. Instead wearing her regular everyday sneakers. Which seemed kind of odd. Having expected her growing days to be done.
Asking her, once she'd said goodbye to her mom and closed the door behind her, "Is it just me or do you seem taller?"
Her response to which was a bemused, "Taller? What are you talking about? I'm not taller. I'm the same height I've always been, silly." Shaking her head as she laughed. "Don't tell me that you bought into all that Project Gargantua stuff. The doctors said it didn't work remember. And it certainly isn't going to on me."
"Yeah. I know. I'm... I guess I'm just imagining things is all," you told her. Pushing this ridiculous idea from your head.
To which she agreed, "I think you are. Either that or you're shrinking. Turning into teeny-weeny-tiny little Tim." Playfully making fun.
"Yeah," you chuckled, joining in on the joke. "That's probably it. I've been eating too many magic beans. Just like Alice."
"That wasn't magic beans you dope! That was a shrinking potion! Seriously... Did you pay any attention in middle school? We did Alice and Wonderland as a school play!" Allison having in fact played the title role. While you'd been little more than a background extra. Having spent most of the rehearsals goofing around with Randall.
"Obviously not, no," you replied. Telling her instead that, "I was too busy staring dreamily at you!" Which was also partly true. It being not long after that that the two of you had started going out. Back in the 7th grade. Having barely been able to take your eyes off of her for the entirety of the production.
"Oh you really are the charmer, you know that?" she smiled. Winning her back around. Just like you always did.
The two of you walking arm and arm then up the street. Deciding to head to the mall. Where, other than making a few mental comparisons, her height wasn't mentioned again. Figuring that it was just a trick of the light. Or perhaps an idea that was put inside your head by the two doctors right enough. A little wish fulfillment if you will. Because surely if anyone was going to notice if she'd grown taller it would be her. Which clearly she hadn't. Instead being exactly the same as she'd always had. Just the way you liked her.
