Experimental brain transplant surgery saves either your life, or someone very close.
This choice: Allison Lowry, your girlfriend.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #10

Allison Lowry, your girlfriend.

    by: Unknown
"Allison Lowry, your girlfriend."

No way! Not Allison. The girl you've been going out with for several years, the girl who makes you smile and has been there for you when you need her support. The first girl you have ever kissed and promised to never to break up with. And now through some freak accident, you were now inside her body and she was in yours?

"How-how is she?" You ask tentatively.

"Ms. Lowry is fine, her vitality signs are stable and she seems to be doing fine." Dr. Kerry says sounding proud of it.

"That doesn't mean she's not affected by the shock." Dr. Saunders continued giving a scowl at his college, who just raises his eyebrow. "Ms. Lowry was of course happy to be alive, but when we told her the news that she was inside her boyfriend's body, she was rather upset about it. Calling us witchdoctors among other things.

That's my girlfriend. You think proud. Allison wasn't the kind of girl that would be pissed off easily, but when she was pissed off there was no way of stopping her.

"When she finally stopped swearing at us, we told her about the situation and how you and her have switched bodies. She calmed down hearing that though she still is, how you youngsters say that, "pissed off" at us. Nevertheless she quickly understood that she had to agree with the agreement being made." Dr. Saunders continued.

"Wait? What kind of agreement? What are you talking about?" You ask them both.

"A non-disclosure agreement, to keep this thing between these four walls here." Dr. Kerry explains pointing to the edges of the room.

"Let me explain it more." Dr. Saunders say. "The procedure we used, is not technically allowed inside this hospital. We were given the use of your bodies, because the staff gave up on you. There was no way to save your lives using conventional methods, there was only one option allowed. But this hasn't been approved by the board of directors yet. We don't expect it either, with the current members on the board.

"Bunch of buffoons." Dr. Kerry mutters seemingly angry at them.

"So that's why we have to keep this between us three and of course Ms. Lowry."

"Wait a minute, hold on, so you're saying that even my parents can't know about this? This is crazy!" You shout angry.

"I know Tim, but please. The less people know about it, the better. We wouldn't want this leaked to the outside world, think about all the press coverage, you would never be left alone."

That might be true, but what about your parents and Allison's for that matter? Don't they have a right to know that the person they will soon be holding in their arms is the partner and not them? You guess that decision is not for you to make, judging from the reaction of the doctors.

"And Allison has already signed for it?" You ask the doctors to be certain.

"Not yet, but she has promised to do so. We both trust her to uphold that promise." Dr. Saunders explains.

That settles it then. If Allison agreed to sign the agreement then you will so too. You know Allison wouldn't sign anything, being one of the keenest girls you know. If she signs it, you can be sure it's safe for you to do too.

"Alright, I'll sign them, but under protest." You tell the doctors who look relieved hearing your decision.

"We didn't expect something else, Ms. Lowry telling us the same thing." Dr. Saunders then stands up. "Then we'll leave you alone for now, the medicines should be kicking in soon. After that I expect you'll get a visitor or two."

"Wait!" You say as there is one burning question hanging on your lip. "Can I, can I see myself?"

Dr. Saunders looks a bit hesitant. "Okay, but try to stay as calm as you can, we don't want your heart giving too much pressure. Dr. Saunders grabs a handheld mirror from a desk and slowly lowers it in front of you. When you see your reflection you let out a gasp of air, as you see your reflection. Oh God..it's Allison. Staring back at you is the reflection of Allison Lowry, looking tired and weak. Her long blond hair all matted and disheveled. Her deep blue eyes tear strewn and puffy, and a series of small stitches decorating the top of one eye. It was her. It really was her. Or more importantly, it was you.

"As you can see, there really is very little sign of any external damage visible on the cranium." Dr. Kerry explained, being unable to help himself. "We even managed even preserve your girlfriend's hairline using a rather new and highly advanced, non-evasive surgery technique that I patented myself. To the outside observer, they wouldn't even know anything was amiss."

"Kerry!" Saunders barked, shushing his colleague. "We try to calm Mr. Connors down."

"Is this really me?" You ask as you can see Allison's lips move in the reflection, hearing her voice coming out of your mouth.

"I'm afraid so Tim. I wish we could have done things different, but we didn't had any choice."

You tried to protest, telling them they had to find some other solution but it was too late. Whatever drugs they were pumping you with had quickly taken effect and you felt yourself suddenly starting to drift. Why us? Why Allison and me? It's just not fair, was the last thought on your mind as you felt unconsciousness slowly began to creep in. Why did it have to happen to us?...
