Frank the Alligator

Frank sighed in front of a giant poster. The poster displayed a giant tiger and wolf gritting each other as if they were ready to fight. On top the poster said, "Fist Brawl!" It was an ultimate fighting competition was going to start up soon.

Ever since Frank was a young alligator, he was always fascinated by fighting. He even wanted to do it himself. However, he never got the body needed to fight. Frank's arms and legs looked like twigs and his chest was flat. Frank rubbed his scales to feel nothing. No muscle, not even fat. He was just average. Frank once tried to bulk up by going to the gym and eating right but he got no results no matter what he did. Frank felt discouraged and gave up on his dream thinking he had no means of achieving it.

Without having anything else to do, Frank decided to walk back home. As Frank walked, he passed by giant swamp and smiled at it. He had a lot of memories in that place. Back when he was a kid, Frank would just swim around endlessly without a care in the world. However, he didn't make a lot of friends because of that. Everyone thought the swamp was gross and it was crazy for anyone to swim in it. Frank couldn't really explain himself. Being in the swamp felt natural to him. For nostalgic reasons, Frank walked to the swamp and stopped at the small harbor that sat on the shore.

Frank sat on the harbor and looked at his reflection in the water. The only friends that accompanied him were the fish swimming through the muddy water and the mosquitoes buzzing across his face. Frank looked at himself pathetically. He was small, weak, and lonely. It seemed like nothing in life could go his way no matter how hard he tried. Still... things would get better eventually... right? How long would life kick him until it finally relented?

Frank sighed as he dipped his toes into the water below, his clawed digits sinking under the water almost vanishing in the slightly murkiness as his green scales blended with the water's color. The cool water lapped gently at his feet as he scooted forward and sank them in further. He liked the coolness the water brought to his body. It was a nice change heat that plagued the county he lived in. It seemed like everyday nature was trying to steam cook his body, so this was a welcome relief. Even if people did think he was weird, he still enjoyed this water.

Frank thought about possibly going for a swim, it had been a long time since he last taken a swim here, but very little had changed since then. It was still the same place as always. It brought a smile to his face as he gave his feet a small kick, sending small ripples through the water. Today was certainly hot enough for a swim, plus he remembered always feeling better after a swim in the water. It always seemed to have a calming effect and helped him forget his troubles for a little while.

Frank pulled his scaly feet out of the water and leaned forward into the swamp. He stuck out both his hands and scooped up some of the water into them. Even though it was hot enough for a swim, Frank didn't want to get wet because he didn't have his swim suit. Frank splashed the water into his face. Every drop seeped into his pores and it felt great to Frank. Frank felt the refreshing water go into face to wash away the heat and sweat from his brow. The svelte alligator let out a sigh of relief and laid back on the harbor.

Suddenly, he the cool water began to feel hot on Frank's face. The heat from his face made Frank think he was getting sick. The heat quickly spread from his face to the rest of his body. Frank thought he was boiling inside a volcano and had no idea what was going on. Frank could feel tension and pain on every flat muscle on his body. He gritted his teeth for a second till it stopped suddenly. Frank rose up puzzled. He had no idea what happened. First he was feeling intense pain then all of sudden it stopped. How? Why?

Frank figured something was in the water that made him sick. To think he used to play in it. People always told him he would get sick but never did until now. Frank guessed he was too old for the swamp and it was time to leave, so he got up and headed for home.
