This choice: The Muffin flies into a magnetic storm! • Go Back...Chapter #4Lightning Storms in Space by: WTLamp Amy piloted her ship through Earth's stratosphere and away from the planet. She'd have to be far away enough from the Sun's gravity to engage the Muffin's faster than light drives. Tex was silent, having been ordered to remain so by Amy, since she found talking disrupted her ability to concentrate on her piloting. Finally, the Muffin made it past Neptune, and the FTL indicator on her ship went green. Amy then pushed a button, and the stars all became a blur as her cargo ship became faster than the light that they emitted.
Amy leaned back in her chair with a sigh, before getting up. "I'm going to go take a nap. Haven't had a chance to sleep all day," she said.
"Affirmative. I'll remain at the controls, Captain," Tex replied, moving over to the pilot's seat.
"Thanks. See you later," Amy yawned, heading towards her quarters.
"Rest well, Captain," Tex said.
The trip over to the Muffin's crew cabin wasn't that long at all, considering how small the ship actually was. Amy soon found the cot that she slept in, a space-saving measure so that an even bigger cargo bay could be fit into the Muffin's chassis. She stripped down to her underwear, setting her clothes aside to be washed later. Amy yawned again, clambered into the cot, and soon fell asleep.
An alarm klaxon woke her up quickly. Amy wasn't sure how long it had been; it certainly hadn't been long enough for a decent nap. But emergencies waited for no one, so Amy rushed towards the bridge, not bothering with putting her clothes on. She found herself there within a minute.
"What's going on?" Amy asked with steel in her voice.
"We appear to have entered a magnetic storm, Captain. The sensors didn't pick it up until it was too late," Tex replied in his usual monotone.
"Wonderful. What ELSE could go wrong?" Amy grumbled. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
