It seems that in this new reality, back during the early nineties a french scientist by the name of Hubert Lastrange, obsessed with the idea of his own mortality, managed to perfect the human cloning process, which he then followed by creating the worlds first mind transfer device, allowing him to clone himself, then transfer his consciousness into the body of said clone, thereby significantly extending his own life span. Since then, the body swap technology has proliferated rapidly, with human cloning and body swapping becoming increasingly common thanks to an ever increasing number of cheep and easy to acquire devices. Clones remain less common however, primarily due to the expense involved in force growing them to maturity seeing as not many people are interested in being transferred into the body of an infant.
In addition to this, STD's never materialized in this world, just as you'd wished, and with the virtual immortality enjoyed by anyone who can afford to clone themselves, better means of birth control have become mandatory, as well as stringent population control, resulting in pills providing one hundred percent effectiveness at preventing pregnancy, as well as a sharp drop in the birth of newborns world wide. One other, far more personal change that has also occurred as a result of the new technology, your family is now rich, thanks primarily to your step mother Cynthia, who in this reality is a high class body model, having contracted with one of the larger companies involved in human cloning to allow them to produce clones of her. In exchange, your step mom receives significant royalties for every one of her clones the company sells, which has added up to quite a sum over the years, as her body is one of the most popular available among those females rich enough to afford to buy a new one.
There are other memories as well, but their half remembered and vague, without much substance, though hopefully you'll remember them if you ever actually need them.
Looking around your room, you notice that several things have changed. First and foremost, your room is larger, with a king sized bed, big screen television and entertainment center, and a walk in closet. More importantly however, sitting on your nightstand is a handful of items that you're sure you'll find very useful in the near future, namely a pair of mind swapping caps and the remote to go with them, as well as a swap gun, just and point click, and bam, instant body swap. That last one is only semi legal, and seeing as it can be used to cause two or more people to swap bodies unwillingly, having been outlawed in many countries already, but for now, you can still have fun with it. Now, the real question is, should you rush off to find somebody to swap with, or check out your new pad and all the neat new stuff that comes with it?   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
