This choice: "I want to welcome you to the neighberhood." • Go Back...Chapter #6"I want to welcome you to the neighberhood.... by: lord thanatos The headless woman shrugs before typing something else on her phone. "My name's Beth, and I just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood, as well as clue you in on the weird things that happen around here." you read.
"Weird things? You don't say?" you replied sarcastically, staring meaningfully at the place where the Beth's head should have been, still amazed that she could possibly be alive, not to mention just how calm you were being about the whole thing.
The Beth's chest heaved in what you assumed was silent laughter, before taking her phone back and quickly typing "Ha! Yea, I guess having a headless girl welcome you to the neighborhood is a little weird, but seeing is believing as they say. I mean honestly, would you really have believed it if some stranger with all her parts attached had come up to you out of the blue and started telling you that in this neighborhood magic is real, and girls running around with parts missing is an everyday thing... well, you would have thought I was crazy."
Nodding your head, you agreed "Yes, you're probably right, I wouldn't have believed it. So you say his sort of thing is normal around here?"
Giving you the thumbs up, Beth erases what she's written, then types "Yep, no one I've talked to seems to know why, but in this one particular area, anyone and everyone can do stuff like this to themselves just by willing it, and those who are conceived or born here like me, as well as anyone who's lived here a long time can do stuff like this other places as well, although we usually don't, don't want to upset the normies after all."
"Normies? Wait, you said anyone can do magic here? Does that include me too?" you asked, curious and a bit frightened by the possibilities such an ability presented you with.
"Normies are what we call normal people. You know, people who can't use magic and don't believe in it. We try not to upset them by showing off around them too much, we don't want to be locked up in a lab somewhere and experimented on, or start another Salem witch trials or something." Beth typed.
"Yea, that doesn't sound like much fun. But then, why tell me?" you asked, pushing aside your second question for the moment.
"Because you're going to be living here now, that makes you a part of us, and being so close to the center of the weirdness, it's a sure bet that you'd find out about it sooner or latter. I figured it was just in everyone's best interest to go ahead and get all the questions and answers out of the way so you don't freak out and call the cops or something the first time you see a girl with two heads or a pair of hips walking around on their own or whatever. And to answer the question that you haven't asked yet but are probably thinking, the reason you're so calm is because I'm using a normalcy field to help ease you into things. It doesn't keep you from noticing the weirdness, you just aren't as affected by it as you normally would be, allowing you to accept all of this a whole lot easier than you would otherwise. I hope you don't mind, but the last thing I wanted was for you to start panicking as soon as you saw me."
You consider the information Beth's just given you. While you're slightly miffed at the thought of someone, anyone, messing with your head, even if it is for your own good, you can't help but realize that what Beth's doing for you is probably for the best in the long run, plus the fact that that she happens to be a beautiful woman, sans head, makes it a whole lot easier for you to forgive her. You shrugged before replying "No, it's fine, I probably would have freaked out otherwise, just ask me first before doing anything like this again alright?"
Beth quickly types in her response, before holding it up where you could see it. "Sure, I really don't like controlling people anyway, it just feels... I don't know, icky somehow. In fact, if anything, I prefer to be the one being controlled if you know what I mean?!"
Despite the words being in text rather than spoken, you can't help but notice the suggestive nature of Beth's response, and vow to take her up on her offer, but latter, after you've had time to finish moving in and figuring out what the heck is going on in this strange apartment complex you've moved into. A tap on the shoulder tears you away from your thoughts as you realize Beth has texted something else for you to look at. You do so, reading "Anyway, In answer to your second question, the one about whether you can use magic or not_______________________." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
