"What's that up ahead?"
The question came from Misty. Ash, Brock and Misty were walking down a well-worn path in a dense forest. This time the trio wasn't lost, oh no. The trio had a habit of getting lost on their journey but not this time. This time the three friends were heading to what was called the "Legendary Mansion" that was deep in the heart of the Jotho region. A recent discovery, the mansion was said to be the home of a legendary pokemon. The mansion had been long abandoned. The mansion was estimated to be more than a hundred years old and nobody knew who had owned it originally. What legendary pokemon had made the mansion its home? That's what Ash wanted to find out. There were stories that an incredibly old Ninetales lived in the mansion but a Ninetales wasn't considered a "legendary pokemon" even though Ninetales can live up to 1,000 years and said to have mystical powers that came from each of its nine tails.
"I think that's it" said Brock.
The path that the three were on had led them in a wide-open area and a rambling mansion loomed ahead. The mansion had five stories to it and was quite a large building. It also looked old; there was ivy covering most of it and a section of wall had fallen apart.
"It could take hours to look through that mansion" said Misty.
"Oh it doesn't look that big" said Ash.
"Are you kidding?" asked Misty. "that mansion looks like it can take up an entire city block!"
"Why not build the mansion in a city?" asked Brock.
"Who knows?" asked Ash. "maybe the owner was a rich recluse"
As the three approached the mansion they saw they weren't alone. Perhaps a dozen people were milling about the entrance. Right in front of the mansion was a grand garden and behind the mansion there was what looked like a giant hedge maze.
"What are all these people doing here?" asked Ash.
"They all came here to look for the legendary pokemon that's said to live here" said one of the people, a rather short and pudgy kid that looked to be 12 at the most. "but they're all to scared to go in"
"What's to be scared about?" asked Ash.
"Dude, Ninetales could put a curse on you" said the pudgy kid. "there's a Ninetales that lives here too"
"Ninetales isn't a legendary pokemon though" said Misty.
"I didn't say it was" said the pudgy kid.
"Well I'm not scared" said Ash. "I want to go in and catch any pokemon that are in there"
"Good luck with that" said the pudgy kid. "you can't catch a legendary pokemon"
"We'll see about that" said Ash boldly stepping forward and entering the mansion itself followed by Misty and Brock. Misty glanced back and the pudgy kid had suddenly disappeared.
"Well if that kid isn't scared, I'm not" said the only adult there, a woman in her mid-20s.
"What's your name?" asked Ash to the woman that had walked in with them.
"Carol" said the woman. She had long blond hair and average looks and features.
