Chapter #3

Treading in no mans land.

"We will be careful, thank you for the advice" You said softly.
He sighs "There isn't anything I can do to stop you" he hands you some paper and lead from a pencil. "Sign out and be sure to make it back here. Be careful" he says as he sends you on your way.

You and Keirra climb out between a crack in the floor. You've entered an entirely new world now. The ceiling is at least a hundred tail-lengths tall, couches had cushions the size of outposts, and the air felt free. You were no longer on the linear paths inside the walls and floor, but rather had more room to walk and breathe than you truly knew what to do with.
If life was more like this, you wouldn't have anything to complain about.
As glorious as is it, you need to be careful. Solace could come out of no-where and gobble you both whole, so even when you are out here you stay on guard. Not for Keirra though, she just booked it as fast as she could, spinning and taking deep breaths. She's always like this. She just loves to stretch her legs outside the colony. A little run around would always make her day.
You don't like running, unless it's from danger. Running burns away much needed fat. And when you're ribs are exposed, so is a scar that reminds you of a terrible time when you lost someone close to you.
You shake the thought from your mind and run after her. That was a terrible chapter of your life, but this is a new one! Everything you do is now in your control. You won't let anything happen to Keirra, if you just keep watch.
A few minutes after you followed Keirra around, you stop. Where is she going? You look around the room and see that there is a large bed, though empty and a few posters on the wall. This is Solace's living quarters. The place where she falls asleep at dark, or after a good hunt. If she finds you here...
"We're very far from home Keirra, we should turn back."
Keirra stood still and didn't answer. She only muttered, "Those beggars were right..."
"Are you listening? What are you staring at?" You look at the direction of her line of sight and see a shiny object on top of a dresser, near the side. Your eyes widen as you realize it is a sapphire.
A gem, something so precious it's rumored to be worth more than all the food in the pantry. The headmasters of the colony use it for bargaining with others in buildings. Rich micen adore the way gems and precious stones shine in the light and decorate homes with it. If you can get that in your shop...
No! It's not worth it! If Solace finds you with a little bit of food, you're likely to talk your way out of it. But if she finds that you took a gem from her, she'll make sure you don't escape. You have to stop Keirra from looking at it before she does something stupid!
You didn't notice Keirra leave your side until she was halfway up the front of the dresser. You scour the enormous bedroom looking for any signs of the giantess she-cat. "Get down before Solace comes back!" you exclaim in a low voice, careful not to herd any attention, but she was too far to hear you, or maybe she didn't care. Your mind, clouded by fear and anxiety, climbed after her. Scaling some opened drawers and leaping from handles; you've done things like this your entire life, it's easy now. You made it to the top shortly after her.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. You got the gem and get away swiftly.

2. Oh-no.. +

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
