Azure Behind Bars

The next day, Azure was in Under Gloom and was wearing a black and white striped prison outfit. Vernon was in the same cell and Azure gave a growl as a yellow-skinned hourglass-shaped manticore woman in a green prison staff outfit was outside. "I'm telling you, Vice Warden," says Azure with a growl. "I didn't rob the bank. One of my tenants did and tried to use stolen money to pay off her debt." The manticore gave a scoff. "You must think I'm stupid. Like I haven't heard that excuse before." "I want to see the actual warden." Complains Azure. The manticore shakes her head. "No can do, Mrs. Skinwalker," she says. "The warden is out sick with a cold. I'm the warden today and I don't believe you one bit." The vice warden then turns and licks her lips as she spots Vernon. "And just in case your husband tries to escape, here's a fair warning; a lot of the staff and inmates love to nom on humans." The vice warden laughs wickedly and walks away.
In rage, Azure scratches the cell walls. "Just wait'll I get my hands on that weasel! I'm going to murder her!" Vernon blows in his wife's ear. "We're already in enough trouble, Azure. Threatening to kill Lydia isn't going to help our case." Azure gives another growl before she sits down on her prison cot which breaks under her weight and leads to her prat falling. Azure rubs her behind in pain and growls to herself.
Soon Azure is in the prison cafeteria and looks at what passes for food in Under Gloom. She sniffs her tray and gags. "What the heck is this gunk?" asks Vernon. "I've been eating monster food for 22 years and I've never seen anything so putrid looking." Azure gives a groan. "Monster food is already unappetizing to humans as it is, so when it comes to prison food, they have to go the extra mile. This slop looks outright poisonous." It was at that moment another inmate sat down next to Azure. She was a centaur with the lower body of a quagga, dark skin and a garish looking face with her prison uniform reduced to a bra. She looked very interested in Azure who gave a growl at her. The centaur girl then looks at Vernon and licks her lips. "Are you going to eat that human?" Azure bites the centaur girl's hand as she reaches for Vernon and makes her scream in pain. The centaur blows on her hand before Azure growls again to tell her to back off.
After lunch, it's visiting hours and Felicia is visiting her mother in prison. "I can't believe Lydia would stoop to bank robbery," says Felicia. "Don't worry, Mom. Dad. I'll get you both out of this." "I hope you're not planning to break us out, Felicia," says Azure. "I don't want Lydia dragging you down either." Felicia gives a hopeful smile. "Actually," she says. "I hired a lawyer to spring you. She'll be over later." Vernon gives a gulp. "Which lawyer?" he asks in worry. Felicia gives a purr. "Kate Rowling." "Kate Rowling!?" yells Azure. "Hiring that harpy costs an arm and a leg!" "But she's good at what she does, Mom. She’ll get you out of here.” Azure lets out a sigh. “Why not?” she asks. “I have nothing else left to lose. Besides, I can always beat the money out of Lydia’s hide later. I just hope that she hurries. I don’t like the looks of some of the inmates.” Vernon gives a scoff. “How do you think I feel? That overweight hyena guard tried to eat me while I was locked in the jail cell.” Azure just lets out a sigh. “Just please try to keep what’s left of Grimmsly Lodge in tact. Above all, Felicia, do NOT let any more inventors or sorceresses onto the premises. Try to limit the damage. Until I get out of this mess, you’re in charge. Do not let ANYONE walk all over you.”
Felicia nods her head. “Yes, Mom.” Azure gives a somber look and kisses her daughter before visiting hours end and Felicia walks away. “I sure hope Mrs. Rowling will be enough to get Mom and Dad out of the slammer.” As Azure and Vernon were being walked away by the onryo serving as the temporary vice warden, Azure raises an eyebrow. “How exactly did the regular warden get sick?” The onryo lets out a sigh. “One of our more troublesome inmates tried to escape when his cellmate was on garden duty. It rained that night and the warden spent hours chasing that creep. Her daughter always warned her that creep was ruining her health.” Azure let out a sigh.
