"Hi Lisa, my name is Tina and welcome to the Nexus, where people rent, buy or sell lives." Lisa followed Tina down the hallway towards what looked like another hallway of offices. Tina continued talking to Lisa, explaining why they asked her to come in today. "We called you in because we finished reviewing your application to rent out your life..."
"Does that mean someone asked to rent out my life this summer?" Lisa asked excitedly. She really needed money to pay for her college that she hoped to start this fall and thought that renting her life out would pay enough to last until next summer.
"Yes in a matter of speaking... plenty of clients either expressed interest in renting your life, but all of them wanted a 90 day rental or longer..." Tina told Lisa as she led her into her office and closed the door. "...and some expressed interest in buying out your life entirely."
"90 days? Do you guys even do rentals that long? Lisa asked. She had originally hoped to rent out only 2-4 weeks max. 90 days was way longer than she has hoped, but she imagined one of those rentals would probably cover all of her college tuition.
"We actually have quite a bit of rental plans. Some of them can last as long as 3 years. We wished to discuss potential earnings you could get for sales and also discuss a new program that we thought we would ask if you might be interested in." Tina said as she pulled out a couple folders.
"I don't know about sales... I have so much planned for my future that it would probably be unlikely I would want to sell. Money doesn't always buy us happiness." Lisa said to Tina.
"I agree. Most sales tend to not focus on currency, but status or achievement. You're young and seen as a blank slate and that's very valuable to many clients. For example, you're about to start college to become a teacher. A teacher could buyout your life and that person would become Lisa. They would then lead their life as Lisa as they wished, while you could skip college and become that teacher complete with their college degree."
"I see" Lisa said while sounding somewhat interested. She might look at that at some point. "And what is this new program you want me to hear about?" Lisa asked with curiosity.
"It's called our surrogate mothers program. About every so often, depending on the woman's pregnancy, you would keep switching into different woman and give birth to their children in their stead. Meanwhile, your body would be housed in a vacation resort with that woman inside relaxing until you gave birth, repeating the process. The trial contracts for that program is for one year and you would receive 1 million USD plus 50 grand per child that you deliver."
Lisa learned in school and from hearing other people's stories that child birth was generally unpleasant and painful. But if she did this for even just one year, she could pay her entire way through college and still be a millionaire afterwards. She just winced at all the pregnancy and child bearing she would have to endure. That money made the offer still sound somewhat attractive.
Lisa needed to pick something now or else she wouldn't be able to make the first payment needed to start school. Lisa decided to go with
