"My mother?" Lena gasped. It had been years since her father even mentioned her mother. Linda Anderson had mysteriously disappeared without a trace when Lena was just six months old. Her father never remarried, and he still kept a picture of her, hidden in the closet.
"You should sit down, Lena" Joe watched his daughter sit on a chair before sitting himself down on the sofa. He had hoped that this day would never come. He felt guilty of keeping the secret from his daughter, but he knew he could no longer keep it from her.
"Lena, what I'm about to tell you" he began slowly, "is the most incredible and difficult story I've ever had to tell anyone. I would not blame you if you don't believe me, but I swear it is the truth."
After a brief pause, Joe continued. "Your mother ... was very special. She was ..."
