I was nothing special to say the least. Sure I had good looks and a nice body, but I was kinda nerdy. I had a small group of close friends, good grades, and was spectacuarily...average. I was 17, had short blond hair, and was about 6'1'' although some people argue I was shorter. My height was the only abnormal thing about me, both of my parents were only 5'10'', although it was believed that my 13 year old brother, Shaun, would wind up as tall as me.
It was a usual day when it happened. I was walking home from school. I would drive to and from school, but it was pointless considering the school was a five minute walk from my house. I was passing by the local supermarket when I saw two thugs roughing up an older gentleman behind a dumpster. I wasn't sure what to do, but I knew that I couldn't just stand there! Thinking fast, I grabbed a shopping cart and charged at the thugs. They were surprised and yelped when the cart caught them in the side, causing one to fall on the ground and the other to fall into the basket. I let go of the cart and watched as he went straight into a wall. As for the other thug, he hit his head on the pavement and would not be moving again for a little while.
The old man looked at me with gratitude. He was still shaking out of fear, but beamed at me. "My hero! My savior!" he said. "Pardon me sir, but I'm no hero." I replied, "I just happened to be in the right place at the right time." "Regardless of what you call it, you deserve a great reward. You may not believe it, but I am a fairy." I looked at him with doubt. "A fairy? Like those little things with wings in Disney movies and Nickelodeon shows?" He had a qick look of disgust. "Heavens no! I still wonder why pop culture depicts us in such ways. I'm more like the fairies of myths and legends. A fae. And whhile I may not be strong enough to fend off some brutal humans, I can read into a person's deepest desires and grant a wish.'
My heart skipped a beat. Maybe...maybe I could finally stand out more. Be more popular, taller, stronger, smarter. Anything but average. This was my golden opportunity, as long as this guy was no imposter.
The old man squinted his eyes and focused for a moment. Then he made a few elaborate gestures with his hands before placing one on my chest. He pushed slightly and held it there for a minute, then let go. "There. I've granted you your deepest desire, so deep in your soul that you aren't even fully aware of it yet. But rejoice! You will soon be gifted with great joy, and if it ever becomes too much, simply shoutmy name, Fayven, three times and I shall appear. Thank you once more hero boy Jack, I shall be on my way."
Faven hobbled out onto the sidewalk and walked off. 'Wait,' I thought, 'Did he say my name? I never told it to him!' I headed back home a little confused. All I was certain of was that I did the right thing and that I was very tired. I had some homeworkm but I could just do that in the morning. I settled into bed and fell into a deep sleep.
That night, I dreamed I was huge, towering over everything and had a very impressive body full of solid muscle. I felt amazing! That feeling of amazment stayed when I woke up, but I saw that I was not huge, and everything was still the same. But, when I rose from my bed, I noticed something amazing...
