Chapter #3

Chick an' Hawk

(I was hot on the case.

I had just received word of a certain someone scaring the townsfolk of this small town. He is known as, 'The Roost'. My name is Oliver Roach. I'm an independent detective robin bird in a certain special type of paranormal activity. Man that's a mouthful, every time I have to bring it up to someone... I just had to go out of my way to find this fiend.

Anyway, my search leads me here in this small, scarce town known as Gulliver Creek. It's fairly high up the mountains. Up there, but not too high, with a few buildings and homes like the ones you'd see in an old cowboy movie. Gotta say though, the anonymous call I received wasn't kidding when they said it would be scarce. I've been walking around for almost half an hour and still haven't seen anyone. Looks like I really am in the old part of town. Hmm... Maybe... Suddenly, something just ahead got my attention. Is, is that a forest? Huh. May as well go in that direction, since there doesn't seem to be anything else here.)

The robin began pacing in the direction of a large, well-taken-care-of forest. Not to far behind him, a rather large shoe of an unknown pursuer stomps the dusty ol' ground below him.

(As I made my way towards the forest, I couldn't help but get the feeling I was being pursued by someone. Although, my intuition towards finding this Roost fellow has been getting the better of me. It's rather strange. Upon entering this forest, it seems everything here has been taken care of quite nicely. Seems someone wasn't living in that town, but in this forest, taking great care of the trees and plants that surrounded me. Could it be that the people who used to live in that town have moved on into the forest? For what reason? And why? There were many, many questions that started bubbling around in my head, at least until...)

*Rawk!*

(Hm!? What was that!? I quickly ducked behind a tree. That sound I heard...it sounded like a loud jerking noise of some sort. Upon sticking out my head, I almost couldn't believe what stood before me. It's as if, I was staring at an incredibly marvelous statue. Of a really large, red-feathered rooster at that, wearing only a pair of long-johns! The rippling muscles all over his body, all tight and filled with immense definition. He just held his pose, facing away from me while sticking out his left arm towards the sky, and right arm hard and flexed with great size of his bicep, and that tricep sticking out beneath... I never thought I'd get such a great view of this unknown figure's muscular back. Every part of him was well-sculpted. Even more than you'd expect! Wait a minute... Could it be, could it be THIS is the guy the anonymous caller phoned me about?

I mean, it would make some sense. He's not a chicken, well roosters are considered chickens, and not to mention his substantial size. I was about to ponder more to myself, until I caught him ready to perform his next broad pose. He slowly turned around, clenching his hands behind his back as he brought at an incredible side-chest pose. He tenses up his marveling pecs and clenches his many defined abs underneath. He seemed to be looking down behind him though, down at his reflection in a...lake? There's a lake here too?! Wow. How did I not notice that? Seems he was staring down at his own reflection too. This was such an incredible discovery, I can only imagine-)

"Hey!"

(Ulp! At that moment, my entire body froze. That voice sounded gruff, and masculine. I slowly turned my beak around, until I got a very good look at...my huge, hulking hawk pursuer. His muscles were very large under the long-johns he wore, and was just as large as that Roost man! Brown and tan feathers covered his entire body, but not enough to mask out any trace of meat and muscle that stood out all over him. He slowly arches his body forward, looking down on me like the towering creature he is. I tried to prepare myself for whatever he was going to lunge at me, like a man!)

The massive hawk glares at Oliver with angry eyes, like he was ready to attack. "......Boo!"

"AHHH!" (I immediately ran off in a huff, only to trip and fall flat on my beak.) "Ow..."

The big ol' hawk chuckles loudly from behind. (Is he laughing at my discontent?! That jerk! I managed to recover from my fall as I sat up on the ground.) "TIMBERRR!" (Out of nowhere, a large oak tree down to the ground. BAM!! Pinning my right leg in the process.)

"AUGHHH!! MY LEEEG!", Oliver screams.

The enlarged hawk throw his hands on his head in surprise, "Oh CRAP!!"

(At that bone-crushing moment, I couldn't control myself. I was screaming and gawking so loud at the amount of pin I was experiencing, I couldn't even hear myself think anymore.) "Huh?" The big ol' rooster overhears Oliver's screams of pain wielding an ax over his shoulder. "What the hell!?" He quickly ran over to the hawk's side, seeing he was trying to pick up the massive oak. "What the hell happened!?"

"You just crushed his leg, jackass! Whadda you think!?"

(I finally calmed down a bit from my yelling and screaming. Probably because I lost my voice after all that. Although, I felt...too hurt to move. My...my body just laid there...twitching...and shivering... My eyes tearing up because I couldn't find the words to describe the amount of anguish I was going through. I didn't even realize that, those two big birds were helping me out!)

The large chicken runs over to one side of the tree, "Here, I'll lift up this side! HNNNG...!!"

Their bodies twinged and their muscles strained. It seemed harder than it looked, but to them it was easy. The muscles all over their bodies, stretching and shredding apart, the straps of their long-johns almost tearing apart. Well, the rooster's straps ended up ripping off. With one good heave, long-johns over their bodies looking painted on with that mass amount of sheer muscle, they finally picked the tree off the ground and tossed it off to the side. The hawk took a closer look at Oliver's injury, only to look away in return, "OH! Oh GOD!"

"That looks pretty bad.", the rooster worries.

(Why were they helping me? Why didn't they just kill me off when they had the chance? Oh...I...was just too pale...to even...taaa-...)

The hawk dropped down to Oliver's side, "Whoa! Don't die kid! Don't die!!"

***

The robin's eyes suddenly flew open, "AH!" He looks around, seeing what looks like the inside of a log cabin while he laid on a couch. "Wha, wha... Where am I?"

Out of nowhere, the very hawk from before pops his head, upside-down in front of the injured bird, "He-hey! You're awake!"

Oliver flinches, "Whoa! ACK!" He clenches his bandaged-up leg. "Ow... My leg... Did, breaking my leg suddenly give me non-gravitational abilities?"

"Uh...no.", the hawk replies. "I'm just using my claws to stand upside-down on the roof." He then releases his claws, landing with grace safely onto the floor.

"So...What were you doing up there?"

"Inversion sit-ups. I don' t necessarily have a pull up bar.", the hawk replies.

"Oh. Is Oliver awake?" The massive rooster from before walks into the room.

Oliver's eyes lit up, "It's...it's you... Wait, how do you know my name?"

The hawk points out to Oliver's backpack. "We, sorta went through your stuff."

"What?! Why?!"

The rooster sits down on an armchair, "Well, you were sorta trespassing in our territory. So it was just for security purposes." Oliver turns his gaze away in a huff. "Heh. I also noticed you were looking for a fella by the name of 'The Roost'."

"Hmph. Yeah, what of it?", the robin torts. "Not like I had much luck anyway."

"Actually...", the rooster raises up his arm in a flexing motion, showing off that exquisite bicep of his, "...you're lookin' right at him."

Oliver turns his attention back at the buffed-up chicken. "...No way... For reals? I mean...I guess, it would make sense. But, why would you call yourself The Roost?"

"I didn't. I guess that's just what the folk we scared off named me. My real name is Timothy. Course you can call me Tim if you want." The Roost overs his hand.

You didn't really want to shake it. "Um...okay. So, there were others here before me?"

"Yep!", the hawk replied. "The name's Reed by the way. We just scare them off folk who come here uninvited. I only meant to scare you off too. Not scare you off and into the path of a FALLING TREE!", Reed yells at Tim.

"HEY! For the last time, I said I was sorry! How the hell was I supposed to know!?", Tim screams back.

"Well you picked a fine time to cut a tree down for a jukebox! What the hell happened to your long-john anyway!? Do you really have to wear your boxer shorts in front o' him!?", the hawk huffed.

"I told you it ripped off when I was helping Oliver from that tree!"

"Uh, guys...?", you spoke lightly. They both turned their attention to you. "I, still kinda have a headache from my endeavor."

"Oh. Sorry.", Reed winced.

"Um, so, Reed, was it? You're the biggest Hawk I've ever laid eyes on. Do you have a name they call you by?", Oliver asks.

Reed smirks. "Heehee. Yup." The muscular hawk turns around, flexing both his arms and giving most of Oliver's attention to his rippling back, "They call me, 'The Rock-Hard Hawk'!" Suddenly, the one strap that held Reed's long-johns rips off, revealing Reed's own pair of boxer shorts. "Oops..."

With notice, Tim wraps his feathery palms around Reed's expansive body. "Aren't we a show-off." He then gives a lick out on Reed's beak.

"Tim! Not in front of our guest!"

"Oh I, I don't mind."

The two stare back at him intently. "...Seriously?"

"To be honest...this is kind of why I came here.", Oliver blushed.
