This choice: Something Else  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

Solitary Coinfinement and Shinigamis

    by: Unknown
“Since you want to prove you can be a model prisoner, I’ve got the perfect way to help you prove it.” At first you think you must have misheard Destiny, because you thought she said she would help you. “Come again?” You say “I said I’m going to help you become a model prisoner.”

“How’s that?”

Destiny grins, which makes you very nervous. “I’m going to remove the temptation to escape for you, by placing you in solitary confinement.” The next thing you know, you’re in a cell where the floor, walls and ceiling are all lined with mattresses, and you’re the only one in the room. You sigh “Well, I probably should have known she’d pull something like this, but at least I can just relax until they let me out.”

You lay flat on your back on the spongy surface of the floor and close your eyes. But not long after you do so, you feel something light drop onto your chest. You sit up to see a notebook with a black cover just landed on top of you, seemingly out of nowhere. “What the? Where did this come from?” You pick up the book and open it, only to see it is completely blank.

You suddenly get the feeling that you’re being watched, and look up from the book, nearly jump out of your skin as you see that where there once was nothing now stood what looked like a young man with long dark hair, dressed in a black suit and red tie. He would have looked human, if it weren’t for his chalk white skin, glowing red eyes, and black lips.

“Who the hell are you?” you say “Better yet, where did you come from?” The young man smiles wickedly, “My name is Renn, and I came from the realm of Shinigami.” “ Renn, huh? Where’s Stimpy then? The realm of what?” You ask, confused “Shinigami, that’s what me and my kind are called.”

“Are you a monster? No, you can’t be. you’re way too small to be a monster, you’re practically the same size as me.” Renn chuckled “It depends on how you look at it. Anyway, that book you’re holding is a death note and if you write somebody’s name in it, that person, or monster, will die.”

You look down at the book in your hands in shock “You’re saying this book can kill absolutely anyone, just by writing their name in it?” Renn nods “Yes. That’s why I dropped it on top of you, to see if you would use it, and so you could see and hear me. You see, even by monster standards, Shinigami are considered myths. Only those who have come in contact with a death note can see them. I’ve been watching you for quite sometime, Wade Wilson. It would seem you’ve made quite the number of enemies, such as the warden of this facility. I’ve decided to give you the opportunity to rid yourself of them.”

“Why? Why would you help me?”

Renn shrugs “Boredem mostly. To be honest, I just want to see what you’ll do with the death note.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pen, offering it to you. “So, will you accept my little gift?” You hesitate. You may be a criminal, but you’ve never actually killed anyone. You can’t deny that the thought of being rid of Warden Destiny once and for all is tempting, but are you really willing to kill her?
