Nate Wallace was tired. Once again he had just spent his day working at Imaginetech Industries developmental division where he'd spent at least 10 hours a day 5 days a week for 8 years with almost no time off. But finally all that time at work, all that time not having any social life to speak of had finally paid off. He'd been selected to be one of the select few to be selected to join the Imaginationland beta test. Imaginationland was a brand new form of virtual reality in which a person could actually put themselves into a randomly generated world with whatever theme the user chose. Unfortunately Nate's neck still hurt from the electronic port that had to be installed into his spine that allowed this to happen, but it was all going to be worth it. He would have the ultimate escape to go into after work where he could do literally anything. Nate quickly installed the necessary equipment into his computer and without even reading the instruction, Nate inserted the necessary wiring into his neck, felt a rush of electricity into his body, and passed out.
Now if he'd read the instructions he would know that there were problems with this beta. Most notably, not every scenario in the system had been tested and could potentially have unexpected results.
And also, since it was just the beta the user would not have any control over the avatar the chosen scenario would choose for them. That feature would be added in the future if all went well with the beta.

Nate had no idea how long he had been out of it, it had felt no longer than the blink of an eye, but he awoke inside a virtual world. It hadn't been what he'd expected, outside of unending blackness was just a few floating series of menus. Nate tried to look down but realized that in this opening setting he didn't even have a body or any sort of avatar at all. After a few seconds (or maybe it was minutes or hours, Nate didn't have any grasp of time in this place) Nate set his focus to the menu's and found that he could scroll through them and search for a setting to insert him in. Nate searched and searched and found so many amazing and crazy choices. He felt like reading every one of them from University Life, Jungle, Underwater Experience, Inside a Harem, and it went on and on and on. Nate even found one that said 'Life of an Imaginetech' developer that he could use in case he wasn't sick and tired enough of his work.
Nate was overwhelmed, there was just so much he could put himself in! He was feeling even more stress now than he ever had at work. "I just want to relax! Is that too much to ask!" Nate complained allowed, but the Imaginationland menu seemed to be listening to him and presented 5 different choices for optimal relaxing. "That's more like it." Nate said as he examined the 5 easy going choices before him.
