You swam through the water until you spotted Jamie still looking around the aquarium. You were about to head over when you felt your lungs would burst. Luckily, the attendant had told you about the location of several air pockets in the reef so the mermaids could vanish from sight and catch their breath. After loading up on air, you went back out. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see your sister looking in the other direction. You took the chance and swam into view of the glass. While pretending to look on the ground for whozits and whatzits, you were secretly watching Jamie.
Your little sister’s eyes lit up with joy when she finally noticed Ariel swimming in the reef. Jamie was practically clawing at the glass to get your attention, but you pretended not to see her. When you felt your lungs reach capacity again, you quickly picked up a small rock and pretended to swim away. You could see Jamie banging on the glass, but you swam back to your air pocket.
Once more, catching your breath, you returned to the water. You could see your sister crying into her hands, thinking she’d missed Ariel. You took the chance to swim right up to the glass and tap. Jamie looked up, and you heard a muffled scream of joy. Your little sister’s mouth started moving at incredible speeds; you guessed she must be trying to tell Ariel how much she knew about the mermaid’s movie. You smiled and nodded, and just before you ran out of air again, you urged Jamie to get closer, which wasn’t hard as your sister’s entire face was already pressed against the glass. You kissed the area near Jamie’s forehead and watched your sister start to jump for joy before heading back to the surface.
You started gasping for air as you surfaced. “That was a really nice thing you did,” The attendant complimented.
“Thanks,” You replied, “But don’t spread it around.”
