Chapter #4

Finally, Something Normal

    by: Unknown
Knaoa gestures you to come forward. "Come on Stephen. Something tells me you've had enough of monster food for a while." "Uh yeah," you say nervously. "I could go for something normal. You follow Knaoa to a human sized table on the edge of the counter as Mesa let out a bovine snort. "Some people have no imagination." The minotaur says to herself.

As Knaoa sits you down she brings you a plate of hamburgers and you sniff the delicious smell of cooked meat and smile as you bite into one. "These are delicious Knaoa." "Well," says Knaoa. "They're not as good as Mesa's." You didn't see how Knaoa would come to that conclusion. While you'd never say it to Mesa's face, you felt that a lot of things monsters consider to be food were strange at best and outright disgusting at first. You look back to see Roxy was eating what looked like giant grilled sea worms in hotdog buns slathered in mustard and enjoying them.

You turn your head in disgust and go back to your own meal. "I still can't figure out how monsters eat this stuff. I don't even know what it is half the time." Knaoa shrugs her shoulders. "You never know what these giants might consider food." You shiver in place. "I know one thing monsters consider food that I'm not crazy about. Knaoa, Mesa is just kidding about the whole cooking humans thing right." Knaoa looks up at Mesa working at the grill and gives a look of fear thinking about her minotaur friend.

"I'm not really sure about that herself," she whispers to you. "It's frightening that I work alongside a monster who could be planning on cooking me. One time Mesa told me she might decide to eat me herself. After all, females of Mesa's species widely consider humans to be food." "Why is that? Cows don't eat people. Why would minotaurs eat people?" Knaoa shrugs her shoulders. "I guess when you're as big as Mesa, all smaller critters qualify as prey. You're lucky to work with Roxy. Gargoyles never eat humans.

You just get back to your burgers and enjoy the meal. Mesa and Knaoa were both very friendly. Perhaps you're over thinking it. Maybe Mesa was only joking about cooking humans. If so it was a cruel joke. Then again Roxy was here and it's doubtful Mesa would try anything with your gargoyle partner keeping an eye on you. Knaoa was alive and well. You figure if Mesa was dangerous to humans, she would've cooked Knaoa by now and maybe even eaten her. But could you really be sure. It was a nice grill but coming here always made you nervous.
