Really, she should have realized something was off sooner, as she was actually in a completely different region! It was Summer, so she was currently abroad in the Unova region, staying at a villa in the beachside resort of Undella Town. In the beds alongside her own slumbered two other women she was sharing the room with. The one on her left was the owner of this villa, her friend and member of Unova's Elite Four, Caitlin.
Elegant, rich, and refined, Caitlin was not just the master of psychic-type pokemon for Unova's Elite Four, but was also a real-life psychic with tremendous powers of her own. Powers that she is continually learning to control and had made great progress in doing so. She and Cynthia have a bit of a rivalry going on between them in battles, with Cynthia having yet to lose, but the two of them remain close.
The woman snoozing in the bed on Cynthia's right was Shauntal, another member of the Elite Four. This ghost-type pokemon master of Unova's Elite Four was also a novelist in her spare time. Even in battle, pen and paper would be near in hand for this one, always seeking inspiration for her next big story. She was also a friend of Caitlin's and also used the villa at around the same time as Cynthia, so the two women were well-acquainted.
Taking care not to wake the others, especially Caitlin due to occasional psychic reprisals, Cynthia got out of bed and went to get dressed, but stopped, turning towards the kitchen instead. Everything was off. She then went over and checked her pokeballs as well. All of them were in their proper place too. Cynthia sighed, that nightmare was really messed up. Everything was fine.
*Knock-Knock*
"Oh, the paper's here," Cynthia said to herself. Seeing that the knocking hadn't woken the others yet, Cynthia decided she may as well pick up the paper. Opening the front door, she saw the newspaper and picked it up, but then paused in place upon seeing the headline.
TEAM PLASMA SPEAKS OUT AGAIN: SHOULD WE BE WITHOUT POKEMON?
"I thought this was supposed to be news," Cynthia muttered. People and pokemon had become a treasured part of eachother's lives. And if they were worried about the pokemon, how would trainers releasing those they have already caught help the world?
But as Cynthia was mulling this over, something happened, something that she could have expected had she known her dream wasn't just nonsense. As it turned out-
