As Scott walked down the empty streets of downtown Metropolis he listened to his favorite podcast on his phone, his head held down to avoid any eye contact with strangers. One would think that a city with such a colorful cast of supervillains would be completely unsafe to traverse at night, but the opposite tended to true. With Bird Boy and Cat Girl running around, common everyday criminals were hesitant to cause trouble for other citizens. The presence of supervillains also acted as a deterrent, as they didn't very much care for lesser evildoers taking up space.
Not that any of that was a concern to Scott. He wasn't the type to immerse himself in the current events, preferring immerse himself in his comics and video games. He ignored his mother's many warnings to come home early and to beware of any strange smells in the area, mostly in part to his inherent optimism bias. Up till then, his life had been completely unremarkable and devoid of any real hardships or conflict. All that was about to change, as he happened to catch the eye of one of the city's most prominent figures...
