As Madison was searching around, she found an open life guarding job at the rec center. Given that she had done this in high school for a brief amount of time, she decided to pursue it further. The job seemed to be a good fit on first glance. She would not have to do much active work besides monitoring the pool, plus she didn't have to commute, it would be right there on campus.
Madison sent an email out to rec instructor about the job and heard back the next day.
Madison, given your past experience, you appear qualified for the job. Come to my office at 2:00 tomorrow and let's chat about the job. --Deb
Madison was delighted by this, she didn't expect such a quick response, and one that seemed to indicate that she had the job. When Cassi got back to the room, she told her the news. "I got an interview for the life guarding job tomorrow."
"You're applying to be a lifeguard? That's neat." Cassi was somewhat surprised by this. Of the people she had already friended on social media, Madison seemed to be one of the more affluent ones, it's not like a job was necessary for her to make college finances work. However, as Cassi would get to know Madison more, she would realize that this was just one instance of Madison doing things that were not expected of her.
"Yeah, I think I'm going to head down to the pool to check it out. Want to come?" Madison asked.
"Of course."
It was a hot day, so they decided to bring their suits and go for a swim as well. As they walked down campus, Madison noticed how hot it was that day. After the short walk to the rec center, they found the pool adjacent locker rooms and begun to change. It was slightly awkward, but something that they would probably witness nearly everyday given that they were roommates in a small single room dorm. Cassi accidentally let her line of sight breeze past Madison, and she saw how fit the South Floridian was, with her near six pack abs, although it wasn't like Cassi was lacking in the fitness part either, and thus they both exited the locker room wearing bikinis.
When they saw the pool, they were stuck by how nice it was. "Geez, nice to see where the tuition money is going," Cassi noted as they looked at their surroundings. It was an Olympic sized pool under a huge glass roof. In one corner, it looked to be open, with an inlet that allowed one to swim outside. They walked out and saw a pool that overlooked campus, complete with amazing landscaping and ample lounge space. "Yeah, I think I read that some really rich older alumnus put up all the money for this."
As they went for a swim, Madison thought to herself, "Hmm, I could see myself working here."
