Mom suggested I spend more time with Melody unt...

I headed up to my room when I felt Mom's hand on my shoulder.

"Why don't you spend some time with Melody" Mom said

"Do I have to?" I groaned

"Now David, I know you don't want to have to swap bodies with your baby sister, but maybe spending more time with her will make it a little easier at least" Mom suggested. I hated to admit it, but Mom kind of had a point. Thinking about it, I'd become more familiar with Melody's daily routine and thus make it easier to adjust to living her life. "Besides, you hardly spend time with your baby sister anyways" she added.

So with hesistance, I headed up to Melody's room where I found her playing with her dolls.

"Oh I David" Melody greeted. I anxiously waved my hand, still not too happy about the recent turn of events.

"So I... I was wondering if I could play with you" it felt very weird to be asking my baby sister if I could play with her. In fact, it dawned on me that Melody would often ask me to play with her and I'd always refuse. It was no wonder she was closer to Cassandra.

As expected, Melody seemed confused. "Buh ya nevah wanna pway with me befah"

"I know, it's just you know, with the whole body swap, thought I get a feel of what my new life will be like" I say sheepishly. Come to think of it, does Melody by any chance resent me? I've never been good with kids, but it wasn't like I was mean to her. Still, suddenly got nervous at the idea of what she'd might do once she becomes the big brother.

However, to my suprise, Melody simply gave me a smile.

"Suh brothah, you can pway with me" Melody answered. She patted her hand on the floor next to her, directing me to sit down.

After I sat down, Melody handed me a barbie doll. I forced myself to play with the dolls alongside Melody.

After a bit, Melody wanted to play "tea party", while having me help her into a princess outfit. She got her stuffed animals placing them around the little play table.

Oddly, to my surprise, I found this kind of fun.

After sometime playing with Melody, I decided to address the elephant in the room. "Why do you want to swap bodies with me, Melody?"

"Tah be gwown up wike yah and Cassandra, siwwie" Melody says happily.

"Wouldn't you rather swap with Cassandra?" I wanted to say, but something told me I would've regretted putting Cassandra into my situation.

"You're ok with becoming a boy though?" I say instead

To my suprise, Melody nods enthusiastically.

"I wike Cassandra as my big sister, shez nice to me. It be mean to make her becam wittle wike me" Melody explained.

"Really?" I saw, finding Melody's answer to be rather ironic.

"Wodnt ya want to be wittle wike me, David?" Melody asks

"Not really" I answer, "I prefer being 'grown up'"

"Buh you alwaz so stwessed and not happy aw zeh time" Melody says.

I glance at my sister. Wait, did Melody just make a good point?

"Just how it is?" I insist. "I definitely really don't want to be a little girl either" I added, letting out a groan.

"Wie not?" Melody replied. "Mommy and Daddy alwahs tweat me wike a pwinces. Bwitanni too bah her pawents." Melody smiled, standing up to twirl her little princess outfit. "You alzo be cute wike me now" she added, making a cutesie princess pose.

Amused by Melody's innocence, I couldn't help but chuckle. "Guess being a little girl can't be that bad".

Melody then came up to me and hugged me tightly. "I promise to be a good big brother" she said. Not sure why, but it felt oddly comforting to hear from my baby sister - well soon to be big brother.

I let out chuckle and nod. "I'll tattle if you don't" I joke. We both giggle.
