"And the person going to swap with David is..." Mom's voice trailed off as the tension became thicker, her hand slowly opening the paper to create suspense.
"Hurry it up already, I've got important things to do." Amelia said impatiently.
"Alright, alright." Mom laid the piece of paper flat on the table. "Its Cassandra."
Yes it was Cassandra, just the person I wanted it to be. "Yes." I blurted out a little too loud. Everyone stared at me curiously, their eyes wide.
"What did you want to be me or something?" Cassandra asked me a bit startled.
Taking a deep sigh I replied with. "Well I'd rather not switch with anyone to be honest. But if I had to choose I'd rather it be you. I mean your lifestyle isn't that different from mine so..." My face turned a bit red out of embarrassment.
"I guess that makes sense, in a way," She replied, a bit confused.
Awkwardness filled the room until finally Amelia decided to break the silence. Amelia got out of her chair walking towards me, a sweet smile on her face. "You know David, you don't have to swap with her right?"
"I don't? Why?" I asked. Was there something she knew that could get me out of this?
"Well, you see David, I'll be taking your place for the swap, you should thank me for being so generous. I'll even promise to hang out with you..." She eyed me up
and down. "Once in a while, when I feel like it."
Of course me knowing Amelia meant never, or maybe if I was lucky once. I honestly didn't want to hang out with her though. She's not someone I really want to be around.
"No way am I swapping with you Amelia. David's name was picked not yours. Besides I'm sure David wants to be me." Cassandra yells Angrily. "Right David?"
"I wouldn't say I want to be you per say, but-" Cassandra interrupts me.
"See he wants to be me, so me and David are swapping and that is final. I wouldn't ever trade my life with you in a million years Amelia."
"Woah slow down there kids." Dad said trying to break the fight up. "The swap won't occur for about a week you know. You can all think about it until then."
"Yeah we know dad." We all said in unison.
"So about me taking your place in the swap David..."
"I'm going upstairs to my room. I don't want to listen to you try to bribe me Amelia." I started headed towards my room and turned on the TV. I figured I'd get in a few hours of videogames to get my mind off of all of this. A few minutes into my gaming the door opened and Cassandra sat next to me.
"So, how do you feel about this David? Are you weirded out?"
I thought about this for a minute. How did I feel? I certainly wasn't happy, but at the same time I really wasn't feeling very worried about it. Even the thought of being a girl wasn't so bad. Though now that I think about it, it was starting to worry me a bit. I quickly paused the game then turned to her. "I can't really say. How do you feel."
She looked at me, a bit of sadness formed in her eyes. "I'm not to sure I want to swap." The sadness quickly faded from her eyes just as fast as it had arrived. "But I guess it won't be to bad."
I looked at her, and paused for a second. I could tell she wasn't very happy about this, but what could I do? Its not like I could do anything about it. "Things won't be so bad, you'll see." I smiled at her, hoping to cheer her up.
"That's what I just said, silly." She laughed a bit, but it quickly died down. "Thanks, David. I needed that." She hugged me and I hugged her back. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
