"Well, I don't see the harm in it," Liara mused, licking her lips thoughtfully. "I've heard good things about these pastries, perhaps they were sent by someone who considers them more of a delicacy. Ah well..."
She gracefully took a bite from the donut in her hand, chewing thoughtfully.
"Mmm....not bad. Quite sweet." Polishing off the donut in a couple bites, Liara paused at Dahlia's chubby form squirming slightly. "Is something the matter?"
"N-no ma'am, I...just have work to catch up on," Dahlia stammered.
"Well don't let me stop you," Liara said, turning back to her keyboard and picking up another donut with her other hand.
"Of course, ma'am," Dahlia said, giving a little bow and, when she turned around, gave a triumphant smirk as she strode out the door. Quietly shutting the office door behind her and sealing it, the security personal at the terminal nearby gave her a look.
"What are you smirking about?" she asked suspiciously. The tough Asari never quiet trusted her younger counterpart, and she was about to find out why.
"Hmm...must take a few more seconds..." Dahlia mused. The security guard opened her mouth to demand an explanation, but instead yawned, her eyes instantly drooping.
"Wha...wow, I got tired all of a sudden," the guard slurred, swaying on the spot.
"That'd be the anesthetic introduced into the staff's water supply," Dahlia said brightly, projecting the confidence that was shockingly absent before now. "Should be kicking in for the rest of you around the same time."
"You....little..." The guard made to unsheathe her sidearm, but her legs gave out from under her and she toppled forward. Dahlia managed to catch the guard in her arms as a series of loud thumps told her that the rest of the staff Liara had on hand had gone the same way. Setting the guard cautiously on the ground so her now ex-boss wouldn't catch on, Dahlia stepped across the body and over to her work station, retrieving a hidden omni-tool from her desk and slipping it onto her arm. Powering it up, the omni-tool projected a silhouetted humanoid figure, heavily distorted and hidden by fields of static.
"The job is finished?" the figure asked, his or her voice equally distorted and warped.
"In a few minutes, Liara T'Soni will be no more." Or perhaps a lot more, she thought to herself with a sadistic sense of glee.
"Good work, another target down. The payment has been transferred."
The figure vanished as the channel closed, leaving Dahlia to make her hasty exit, slipping out a side door and merging into a crowd of workers coming home from the daily grind. She almost wished she could stay to watch the fireworks. It was unbecoming to make things personal, but after enduring Liara's constant jabs at her waistline she couldn't help but indulge in a little payback, if only via the method of execution.
"Enjoy those donuts," she said to herself quietly. "They'll be your last."
Turning the corner, the crowd of workers merged with a second crowd, and Dahlia vanished from sight.
---
The empty box landed in the garbage dispenser with a loud thump as Liara licked her fingers clean. Not quite the best donuts she'd sampled before, but they were a tasty treat nonetheless, and just the pick-me-up she needed to get through the day. She refocused on the investigation into the Volus assassination plot she was trying to bust wide open when she suddenly felt nauseous, her stomach giving a lurch in response.
"Ugh....urp!" Liara winced as a slight burp escaped her lips. "Perhaps they were a little too sweet." Getting up slightly from her chair, she reached over to grab a water bottle out of the mini fridge on the far edge of her workspace. Taking a sip, she didn't notice the arms of her chair brushing against her hips for the first time as she fully sat back down. "That's better...hrmm..." Tugging her shirt down over her small belly, she dove right back into her work, too engaged to notice her shirt immediately pop back up to reveal her belly button. Taking another sip of water, she filled her cheeks with air and exhaled to fight the weird feeling in her stomach, not noticing her cheeks hadn't fully deflated.
"Should have saved some for later," Liara admitted. "Ah well, power on through it I suppose." Doubling down on her report, she delved deeper into an incident on a Turian shipyard connected to the victims. Hunting for a certain file that would crack the case wide open, she lifted slightly out of her chair, then unconsciously sat back down when she felt the arms of her seat brushing against her broadening hips. Frantic typing and computer blips hid the sound of straining fabric and fasteners until at last her quarry was found.
"Lynchpin of the entire operation, and the password to secure it is his birthday," Liara chuckled, rolling her eyes. She quickly retrieved the file in question to a physical data chit plugged into her system which she reached over to unplug. "Easy as....what?"
Her hand stopped short of the data chit by inches. Mildly annoyed, Liara squeezed herself against the desk and tried to reach, barely brushing her fingertips on the device.
"Ugh, I told her this desk was too big," Liara mumbled, looking down to see what she was hitting against. "I'll need t-"
Liara's voiced dropped and her eyes widened in shock as she looked down, realizing it wasn't the desk that was stopping her from reaching across it. Her shirt had ridden up entirely, revealing not a pot belly but a massive gut spilling over into her lap. She pressed her finger into it in shock, finding it to be very, very real.
Something underneath her snapped. She turned her head and gasped in shock as she watched her hips flaring out beneath her, distorting and cracking the polymer arms of the chair.
"What...what's happening?" Liara's hands flew to her hips this time, and she looked in horror as her fingers began to thicken and bulge before her eyes. She thought back to when she licked them clean earlier.
"The donuts!"
Liara tried to stand up, but her rear end was wedged tightly into the arms of her seat at this point. She slammed a meaty hand into her silent alarm underneath the desk. No response. Swearing, she tried to extract herself from the chair, the struggle popping her belt buckle off and sending it flying across the room; the front of her trousers split open and her gut split into two rolls and plopped down over her thighs. Her shirt had been reduced to serving as a bra for her swelling, sagging chest, and it was already starting to split apart at the seams.
Another loud snap, and the chair arm came off in Liara's pudgy hand. Her fat thighs sprung out to their full width as the Asari overbalanced and fell over, hitting the ground with an enormous 'smack' sound. Thoroughly winded, she tried to sit up but was immediately blocked by the immense stomach making a beeline for her knees.
At last, though, the initial shock of fattening up at an extreme rate wore off, and Liara was able to think clearly. Whatever was going on, it was caused by the substance put into those donuts. It had to be. Meaning there was one hope left; the Antidote. A gift from Miranda Lawson after she retired from her own espionage work, the Antidote was a universal panacea, able to counteract even the most incurable toxins or poisons, and with her staff most likely eliminated, it was her only hope.
Taking a deep breath, Liara rolled over onto her knees before the adipose on her legs swallowed them. Getting up to a standing position, she felt her feet burst free from her fashionable shoes and spread across the floor, followed by the seat of her pants splitting apart and joining the remains of her footwear. Taking heavy, plodding steps towards the array of potted plants, she pressed a thick finger to an innocuous spot on the side, hoping her hands weren't too fat for this.
"Remember the old days..." Liara huffed, feeling her multiple chins weighing her lips down. "...when you could just slap...omni-gel on everything?"
The potted plant dinged as the pass phrase was accepted, the inside opening up to reveal a small plastic bottle of neon green pills. She grabbed onto it in desperation, trying to unscrew the cap. To her horror, it slipped from her meaty grip, bouncing onto the floor
.
"No!" she yelled, desperately bending over to try and reach in, her flexibility in the same shape as her shoes and pants at this point. Her knees were crying out in agony. It wouldn't be long before they couldn't support her growing bulk anymore.
"Not....going out....like...this....!" Liara huffed, straining to reach the bottle on the floor as she reached her breaking point. Her hope began to drain away as her stamina did, she could feel herself starting to tip over...
BANG! BANG!
Liara gasped. The door! Someone was banging at the door, trying to open it up! Did the alarm finally reach someone? She tried to call out to unlock the door with another voice command, but sparks began flying from the sides as the hinges were shot or blasted off. The door slammed to the ground as Liara's savior jumped over the threshold.
