A mighty explosion had taken place inside of a chemical plant located on an industrial compound, setting off a huge fire! Several fire engines were called to the scene, along with police and ambulance units. The reporters at the Daily Planet were listening in on the police scanner also heard the news, and Perry White had sent Lois over to get the story, and Jimmy Olsen to take pictures.
Lois arrived there first, with Andrew James the camera man. She set up the live TV camera just outside, since she couldn’t get any closer due to the smoke and the fire. Police units had the entire area blocked off, but the burning building had provided a stunning backdrop for her live report.
In the meantime, Jimmy had parked his small car in the back of the large plant, and he managed to sneak inside through a cargo delivery door. He turned on the flash on his camera, and he immediately started taking pictures inside of the plant. The fire was apparently on the other side of the building, or so it seemed that way.
While Jimmy was roaming around the plant, Superman had just arrived on the scene. The fire had gotten out of control, and the Man of Steel managed to rip off several plates of steel, using his heat vision to solder the plates together to create a large steel bucket. He flew the bucket over to the nearby lake, scooping up hundreds of gallons of cold water, before flying back to the fire and dousing the flames with a large quantity of water!
Meanwhile, Jimmy walked past a large machine, which was damaged by the fire. As he approached it, he raised up the camera to take its picture. Just then, the machine short-circuited, and a mighty blast of energy was emitted from the machine, which struck Jimmy in the chest! The energy blast was blue and red-colored, and it caused the machine to overload! This was followed by a loud explosion, which left Jimmy lying unconscious on the hard, concrete floor!
BOOOM!
“What was that?” Superman said, as he heard the explosion.
The Man of Steel ran into the plant at super speed, only to find Jimmy Olsen, on the floor. He picked up Jimmy and his camera, and flew him out of there, just before the machine exploded!
Minutes later, Jimmy was rushed to a hospital, with Lois and Clark standing by his side. A doctor had examined him, and had determined that Jimmy had been exposed to some sort of chemical radiation. So far, they thought that Jimmy would be okay; however, they wanted to keep him for a few days, in case there were any side-effects…
