My obligatory dog options:

1) The person/people exposed to the cause of the reality shift become the pet dog(s) of someone else (they're physically unchanged, but are seen, heard, and treated as dogs and are unable to speak).

2) Reality shifts so that the roles of dogs and humans are reversed (dogs are the masters and humans are the pets) and only the selected characters are aware of the change.

Or, something non-dog-related.
