Annie, quickly tired out from the sudden exercise, huffed into the kitchen to see what the commotion was all about. She spotted her mother, Julie, rushing back and forth, collecting things like her purse and phone.
"Mom?" The girl spoke up, wearing a look of concern. "What's wrong?"
"Oh, morning sweetie," Julie puffed, out of breath from the rushing around, "I just realised we haven't got any food in the house, so I need to do some shopping, pronto!"
Annie's concern had been totally replaced with grief. No food, plus an irate tummy. Not good. "B-but...what about breakfast...?"
"I know sweetie, I know," her mother sighed, giving her a soft stroke down her hair, "I'll be back as soon as I can though, alright?"
"Can I come with you instead?!" The daughter suddenly squeaked up, knowing there was a fast food restaurant on the way to the store, and her nagging hunger getting the best of her.
"Oh, well, sure you can," Julie nodded, a little surprised her daughter actually wanted to get out of the house on the weekend, "I suppose we can get you some breakfast on the way."
A wide grin took over Annie's face, and she gave her mom a huge thank-you hug. Her belly even growled its thanks.
