As Shawn's cousin/manager Rebecca left with director Trevor to finalize the paperwork, Sonia began wheeling his cage away. "While those two do the boring stuff, how about I get to know you better before you get to work, okay Luci?" Sonia said in a slightly cutesy voice. Curious about his new living space, Shawn grabbed the bars of the cage and pressed his rubbery face against it to see if you could get a good look at wherever you were going. Sonia saw this and smiled, "Have some patience Luci, we're almost there. You'll be rooming with me miss big star." Shawn were very surprised with this. In every other animal stunt job he'd gotten he was always just put in dirty cages with a bunch of (other) animals. It was usually awful because not only was the smell awful but if he was a female like he was now Shawn would have to fight off any males with a stick (or a shapeshifted chainsaw arm).
In a matter of minutes Shawn were taken to a very large trailer, well more like a very nice mobile home. The inside of it looked like it had been lived in for months. With his monkey senses Shawn could tell that he weren't the first monkey to live here, but the first in about a month. And it also looked and smelled like Sonia was the only human who was ever here. Sonia let Shawn out of his cage and pointed him to a little play area she had set up where her closet should be. Inside were a series of toys and pictures you would normally associate with toddlers but soon realized that they were for him and Sonia definitely didn't have a child that they could be for.
Sonia began to encourage 'Luci' to play with them. She seemed to be gauging how intelligent Shawn was. Not wanting to seem like dumb and replaceable he made sure to fit all the square pegs in the square holes and pointing out shapes when Sonia told him about them. It should have been boring but seeing the joy and intellectual curiosity from Sonia made it enjoyable. But after a while something happened that Shawn didn't expect, Sonia began to cry.
"This is so dumb, this is the most intelligent conversation I've had in about a year and it's with a monkey. No offense Luci. How did I let my life get to this point. I mean I love my job and all but I have all but cut out human contact in my life. I haven't even had a boyfriend since high school. Hell I haven't had a girl my own age to just hang out and get drinks with since college. I'm almost 30 and I'm just going to end up spending all my life talking with animals on crummy movie sets. I just wish I had someone, anyone to just...be a normal woman with."
Shawn was dumbfounded by all this, he had turned into a female monkey for a paycheck and now he was playing amateur chimp psychologist for his trainer. He felt bad for her, but then a rush went to Shawn's head, a similar one to the adrenaline rush he would get from doing stunts. What if he just shapeshifted right now in front of Sonia and gave her the friend she so badly wants, nay, needs. Shawn didn't even think of any other consequences, he wanted to do it and had already decided. The only question now was how risky was he going to be with who he shapeshifted into?
