"the young lady who was in the car with you...Allison Lowry."
You just stared at him uncomprehendingly. "Allison? My girlfriend Allison? Wuh...what do you mean? What's happened to her?"
Doctor Kerry spoke up in a dry, matter-of-fact tone. "Allison was the 'donor', Tim. Physically she appeared fine aside from a mild concussion. But the impact caused a blood clot, resulting in her having an aneurysim in the ambulance on the way here. It was remarkably fortuitous timing for your mother."

"They didn't know?" you almost shouted, starting to hyperventilate. "And what about my dad?"
Doctor Saunders tried to calm you. "Tim, all that's done. The important thing is that your mother is alive and that she'll need your love and support. Allison's parents and your father are all in there with her now, waiting for her to wake up...."
His words seemed to fade as the room began to spin. Everything blurred and then went black.
When you woke up later your dad was waiting to talk to you. They had kept you sedated for some time. But your mother was now conscious and aware of what had happened, and she wanted to see you. But before you did, he wanted to explain the agreement for your mom to assume Allison's identity and the immediate living arrangements. Your mother would publicly pretend to be Allison, finishing up her senior year and
