You stare in disbelief at the person in the bed. Dr. Kerry starts to speak but Dr. Saunders hushes him, whispering that they should give you some time to process what you see. They stand there quietly while you try to find the right words. Finally you turn to them and ask in shock "THAT's Randall?"
Dr. Saunders just nods sadly.
"But...but that means she's dead!" you gasp in horror. "And Randall is in her body?!"
Dr. Kerry seems to be at a complete loss so Dr. Saunders steps in. "Yes, son, I'm afraid that's right. It was the only way. At least in some sense they both will continue to live now."
You nod at his words, still trying to grasp all this.
Dr. Kerry speaks. "We've already spoken to both your family and Randall's and they all agree. We can't tell anyone about this so Randall is going to join your family, assuming the identity of 'the donor' - at least publicly."
Saunders glares at him, silencing him for the moment. Then he turns to you and add consolingly "Randall is going to need your help and support more than ever. Can you be there for him, son? This will be hard for everyone, but he's still your friend - and now your family..."
His words pierce through your grief and sadness. Randall has always been there for you, no matter what. So now you must help him - especially now that he has become....
