You stare in disbelief at the person in the bed. Dr. Kerry starts to speak but Dr. Saunders hushes him, whispering that they should give you some time to process what you see. They stand there quietly while you try to find the right words. Finally you turn to them and ask in shock "THAT's Randall?"
Dr. Saunders just nods sadly.
"But...but that's a girl's body!" you gasp in shock. "And she's from my school!"
Dr. Kerry seems to be at a complete loss so Dr. Saunders steps in. "Yes, son, I'm afraid that's right. This was the only body available at the time. I know it's not optimum but at least - in some sense - they both will continue to live now."
You nod at his words, still trying to grasp all this.
Dr. Kerry speaks. "We've already spoken to both her family and Randall's. They all agree. We can't tell anyone about this so Randall is going to assume the identity of 'the donor' - at least publicly."
Saunders glares at him, silencing him for the moment. Then he turns to you and adds consolingly "Even so, Randall is going to need his 'old' family and friends. He will need your help and support now more than ever. Can you be there for him, son? This will be hard for everyone, but he's still your friend..."
You feel like you're in a fog. You hope your just in a dream - or a nightmare - but the doctor's words pierce through you, shaking you out of your shock. Randall has always been there for you, no matter what. So now you must help him - especially now that he has become....
