As a waitress in a restaurant
by: Unknown
"Hi, I'm Isabel," she said to Mr. Markham, the restaurant manager. "I'm supposed to start tonight."
Mr. Markham was a tall, heavy-set man in his late forties or early fifties. He seemed to be one of those people who needs to shave several times a day. "Right," he said. "I've been expecting you." He got out of his office chair. He looked Isabel over carefully. "The owner told my you'd be in tonight. He says you've waited on tables before."
Isabel nodded. "I have."
"Good. Then I won't have to spend too much time showing you the ropes. We open in five minutes, and I need you out there."
Isabel nodded.
"Let's get you a uniform."
"Yes," Isabel said.
"Follow me."
Isabel followed the man to a small room in the basement. "This is where we keep towels, spare uniforms, anything like that." He pulled an apron of a pile of aprons and handed it to Isabel.
She looked it over. As she thought, it was a plain white apron. "Where's the rest of my uniform?"
Mr. Markham chuckled. He seemed genuinely amused. "There is no rest of your uniform. That's your uniform?"
"What?"
"Didn't the owner tell you?" Markham said with a smile. "Our waitresses wear nothing but an apron."
"Nothing but an apron?" Isabel said.
"That's right."
"With nothing under it?"
"Only what you were born with?"
"I thought this is a restaurant," Isabel said.
"It is. We appeal to a very specific demographic."
"Which is?"
"People who want something sexier than Hooters. And there's not much sexier than a hot girl wearing an apron and nothing else."
Isabel put down the apron. She had a vision of herself wearing that apron. Just that apron, as the manager had told her. She quailed at the thought. A bikini was about as revealing as she liked to go. "I can't wear this."
"You will if you want to work here. And let me remind you, the tips are excellent."
"Really?" Isabel said. As much as the idea of working nearly naked made her shake, she needed the money.
"Yes. So what's it going to be? You put the apron on and get to work, or you walk out the door?"
