You grumble as you spit on the ground. You both sat on the park bench as Miko took out several magazines from his backpack, ranging from porn to car magazines. Miko chuckled, “Now THIS is the type of reading I enjoy.” You nod as you light a cigarette and take a magazine or two from the pile. One was a gun magazine and the other was a car magazine, as if you needed to look like more of a testosterone deprived, skinny teen who had problems looking masculine and intimidating. You flip through them, bored until something falls on your head. You rub your head, “Ow.” You look on the ground and see one of those digivice things. It was a toy popularized by the card game company that made digimon in the first place. You glare down at it angrily.
Miko begins to speak, “Is that what I…” You interrupt him, “Yes, and who knows what that thing could do? Probably bring more of those abominations into this world.” You turn to Miko, “Let’s break it.” However, breaking it seemed to be impossible, you slam a rock into it repeatedly, not even a scratch. You sigh after exerting your energy, “Damn, this thing has gotta be like… titanium or something.” Miko nods, just as surprised as you are, “Hey, maybe we can pawn it off or something. It’ll probably go for a pretty penny you know.” You nod in agreement and grin at him, “Well as long as it’s not in our hands, good idea by the way I knew there was a reason I liked you Miko.” You both chuckle as you deposit the device into your pocket and head back into the city.
As you are about to leave the park the digivice starts vibrating in your pocket. It kind of hurts, in fact you get a burning feeling on your left leg, the same pocket the digivice is in. You groan, clutching you leg as you dig your hand into your pocket and pull it out. The digivice feels so hot you think it could probably melt the flesh off your hand. You take it out of your pocket and swiftly throw it onto the ground. You clutch your burning hand, “JESUS CHRIST… that burns so bad.” Miko turns to you, “What the hell happened?” You continue to moan, “It burns, it burns… Jesus…” You wave your hand around in pain. You and Miko end up finding a plastic bag and scoop the digivice inside of it, somehow it doesn’t burn through the thin plastic. You make your way out of the park and towards the local pawn shop. When you both arrive the shop keeper, an elderly man is shocked. He sits at his shop counter, eying you two suspicious, “I’m sorry boys but I can’t take it.” Annoyed you retort, “Why not, it’s a… limited addition collectable.”
The shop keep responds, “A DIGIMON collectable maybe. No, no. We don’t deal with anything digimon related anymore I’m sorry.” Angered you shout, “Well then what am I supposed to do with it?” The old man shrugs, “Keep it.” You were a bit of a short fuse, and that usually didn’t help you but you got very mad when you were denied money. You once sent a kid to the nurses office for giving him two Indian burns and a bloody nose for not paying you back your five bucks he borrowed for lunch one day. You growl, “Keep it? What if this thing belongs to one of those digimon things and they come after me?” The shop keep chuckles, “Well then I certainly don’t want it… look I’m sorry boys but if you keep acting this way I’m going to have to call the authorities.”
Sweat started forming on your forehead, ‘not Officer Nonaka, and a big hell no to Officer Matsuki.’ They were the bane of your existence and you certainly didn’t want to have your second run in today with them. Miko puts his hand on your shoulder, “Come on Sam, we’ll go somewhere else.” You nod with your head down as you both walk out of the dusty old store. Outside of the store you yell, “This is bullshit he should’ve jumped at the chance to buy this thing. You know how valuable one of these things must be… thousands, tens of thousands maybe. What a scrub that old man is.” Unbeknownst to you and Miko, the shop keep called the authorities anyway, “Hello, police. Two young men just came in with some digimon related device. It may be nothing but who knows, it could be dangerous.” The operator on the other line thanked him as she asked him to describe you two.
The sun was setting now, you had already walked half the city and you were nearing your house. You both decided to sit down on the stoop of that old abandoned bakery, giving your legs a break. It used to be a pretty popular place, owned by Officer Matsuki’s father too. He passed away a few years ago though, he had some heart related problems or something. You look down at the zip lock bag in your hand, “What the hell am I gonna do with this?” Miko shrugged, “Listen man I’ll take it off your hands if you want.” You shake your head, Miko might be your friend but you knew fair well that he was just as much of a con man as you were. You wouldn’t trust the guy with a bag of skittles without wondering if he’d eat them all on you, let alone what could very well be a priceless piece of novelty and technology. You respond, “Nah, I think I’ll hold on to it… for now at least.”
You sighed as you got up, heaving your tired legs to stand. You start to walk towards your house again. You only take a few steps before you hear that dreaded police siren again and turn to see the approaching cop care. You stand still glaring at the cop car, knowing running would be useless. The cops knew full well where you lived. Officer Nonaka practically had it memorized as well as her home phone number. Speaking of her she stepped out of the passenger side of the vehicle while her husband and chief Officer Matsuki stepped out of the driver side seat. You’re heart sank, this was bad. It had to be if both of them were approaching you. The tall, brown haired man approached you with a worried look on his face, “Sam, I’m gonna need you to hand us that digivice now. You’re not in trouble, trust me. Nothing bad is going to happen I’ll even give you a ride home afterwards. But we need you down at the station to interrogate you, we need to know how you found that digivice.”
As he tried to reach out and grab your arm you pull it away, “Bullshit, you’re just trying to arrest me. What did some asshole spread another rumor about me. Give me a lie detector test I’ll prove my innocence.” Officer Nonaka growls angrily at you and rushes you. She slams you against the wall and grabs you by the arms, ‘damn she must be one hell of a woman to handle in bed.’ That comedic thought crosses you mind as she pulls your hands behind your back, spins you around and slams your face against the wall. She then handcuffs you and starts dragging you away.
