Evan closed his eyes and concentrated. When he opened them, he quickly looked around but nothing seemed to have changed.
"Well, it looks like you still need some rest bud," Jack said with a smile on his face.
Just then, Alex came running through the living room.
"Slow down, sweetie," Jack exclaimed.
Alex pretended to ignore him, which was unusual considering she normally listened to her dad when he used his stern voice. Evan decided to make himself something to eat in the kitchen to take his mind off of how embarrassed he was that he had actually believed the dream. His mom was there and she then turned to face him.
"Hey darling. Are you feeling better now?"
"Yeah," said Evan.
She reached up to give him a peck on the cheek and then turned her attention back to her cooking. The look on her face had made Evan uneasy, but he couldn't figure out why. As he began to get some food ready he finally noticed he was wearing his dad's wedding ring on his hand and realization began to sink in. He decided to test it by going up to Alex's room and asking her if she had started on her homework.
"Nearly, Dad," she replied.
Evan rushed downstairs to his dad and showed him his ring finger.
"Holy ..." his dad began to say but he cut himself off.
"Now I'm married to Mom and you're treated like her son," Evan exclaimed.
"Well, that explains why she just came in to tell me to turn off the TV and then yelled at me for backchatting."
"We have to swap back right now."
"Definitely," Jack replied.
Evan concentrated and when he opened his eyes he was no longer wearing a ring.
