The first hand played

“I’ll set my gender…”, he said. “Can’t hurt to lose that… right?”.

Nobody answered. Another image began emerging from the box and then floating over to Henry. It showed the male symbol.

They continued and it was Manuela’s turn. “I’ll fold.”, she said and put the cards away. Theodore did the same.

“Is your hand that bad?”, asked Andrea. “Normally you don’t fold, Theodore.”.

“Well, you know me very well.”, laughed Theodore. “And yeah, my hand is horrible. No point in playing and losing more than I would want.”.

“Well, I’ll bet as well.”, said Andrea smiling. “I’ll set my voice.”. An image of a music note appeared.

“I’ll check.”, said Erica. Henry checked as well.

“Now, I want to see what you two got.”, said Andrea when she showed her cards. The others showed them as well. The winner was Henry.

“I won.”, he said disbelievingly. “But what now? What do I have to do?”. It was like the box or the cards or whatever it was what was doing all of this, could understand him. In front of Henry formed an holographic table and the images which were floating around the players flew towards the table. Small figures appeared around the table. They just looked like the people who were sitting on the real table.

“You have to touch the trait and then drag and drop it on one of the players. Then the swaps will occur.”, explained Manuela.

Henry did as he was told and touched the dress icon first. He looked at the small figures and dragged the dress over to the figure which looked like himself. He was overwhelmed with everything that was happening that he did not realize what would happen if he did this. The moment the dress touched the figure the swap occurred. Henry was suddenly wearing Andrea’s red floral-print dress.

“Holy!”, exclaimed Henry. Manuela giggled at him. “You haven’t thought about what would happen, right?”, she asked him. “That happens to everyone.”.

“Er… yeah… I’ll have to be more thoughtful…”, he said and looked amazed at his dress. He then looked back at the holograms.

He touched the hair symbol and then dragged it over to Andrea. Andrea’s red hair changed brown and grew short and Theodore’s did the exact opposite.

Henry continued, dragging the male symbol over to the Erica figure. Nothing happened. “You’re considered a woman now.”, explained Erica. “And I’m a man now. Don’t worry, you don’t have to wear make-up or something. Your life is mostly the same except that everyone thinks you’re a woman.”.

Henry nodded to show her that he understood and continued. He took the boots symbol and dragged it over to his own figure. His black shoes turned into the black boots.

“I guess since I already have a dress…”, he said and continued. He took the nose symbol, the note symbol and drew it over to the Edward figure. Edward’s nose changed to look like Theodore’s. He did not say anything but Henry guessed that his voice was now that of Andrea.

Henry took the face and the sheet of paper and dragged them over to Theodore. Theodore’s face changed to that of Erica. “Girl’s coach again?”, said Theodore and raised an eyebrow. I already was last week… Well, it’s not written in stone yet.”.

With that every swap was chosen and the game began from a new.
