Chapter #4

U.S.S. Valkyrie (NCC - 101)

    by: Unknown
Captains log. Stardate 2158.4 (side note this is 3 years before the formation of the Federation)

“Captain Adam Kilgore reporting. This will be my first command on board the Valkyrie. A Daedalus class starship. *Computer Pause* (What was Starfleet thinking? Being a new ship of the line in a time of war gives little time to properly test out a new design before thrusting it into combat). ~Sigh~ *Computer Resume* Our mission is to rendezvous with the fleet at Tarod in preparation for our first major offensive against the Romulan Star Empire. *Computer Pause* (A new crew, an aging NX fleet, and superior Romulan forces against us... what possible victory does the Federation hope to achieve)? *Computer Resume* With any luck we will finally turn the tide of this war in our favor.”

*BEEP*

“End log. Enter.”

The sliding bulkhead door hissed open revealing First Officer T’Lar. A Vulcan female approximately ninety years of age. Being that the typical Vulcan lives well over two hundred years she would be considered by human standards in her mid thirties. Despite her relatively youth she has proven herself to be quite the dutiful second in command. Of course, what can you expect from a race that is taught to suppress all emotion in favor of total logic?

Taking a full glance of her you notice she is attired in the standard issue federation uniform (http://ts1.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.... ) though her rather voluptuous mounds on her chest protrude every so slightly. If only to draw your attention away from her rather obvious pointed ears. T’Lar’s long, flowing, brunette hair almost makes you weep that she is not human. Her cold, glossy blue eyes, cat-like in shape, reminds you of this fact and adds to her people’s characteristic non-emotional personality.

Handing a pad over to you, “All preparations have been completed Captain. At current speed we will be at the rendezvous point in 6.37 hours.”

“Very good T’Lar. You have an impeccable talent for accuracy and efficiency.” You jest with her lightheartedly only to receive the same cold blank stare in return.

“Fascinating.” She replies monotone, “The Human compulsion for irrelevant humor never ceases to amaze me.”

“All work and no play T’Lar… it means you have to have a little fun now and again.”

Suddenly you feel the ship jolted violently, knocking you on the floor with T’Lar on top of you. Followed shortly thereafter by incredible shaking akin to that of an airliner of the old Earth days hitting turbulence. Data disks fly off the desk hitting the walls and floor. Lights blink off only to be superceded by the emergency lighting a few seconds after. The sound of grinding metal, bubbling booms, and strange whining saturates your ear drums.

Then it comes.

An ear shattering alarm to Red Alert. A call to Battle Stations. Easier said than done. The ship, though no longer at Warp speed still felt like it was going at super fast impulse only sideways. Equilibrium was off. Everything tilted to the left and down with the angle getting steeper by the second.

You had to get to the bridge.

Grabbing T’Lar by the arm you get up to the door. Pressing the Initiator Button the bulkhead door to your Ready Room, you pull T’Lar through by sliding yourself against the metal wall using the rail grating as leverage. Getting to the next bulkhead door you again push the Initiator Button.

The scene that opens up before you is pure chaos. Panels, vents, lighting, even the floor itself seemed to be exploding. http://www.scifidimensions.com/Dec02/exp... You saw wounded and dead crew members flying every which way. Screams, of pain and fright, overshadowed by the deafening sounds of metal hitting metal and explosions, were coming in from all directions.

It was only when an explosion from behind you knocked both you and T’Lar on the Command Deck floor that you rolled over to see the Valkyrie’s commencement plaque. On it were the Latin words: “Res gesta per excellentiam.” Achieve through Excellence. That’s when you knew you had to take control back of your ship and re-establish order. This is your first command and you were not going to let it end like this. Not this soon.

“REPORT!!!” you shouted at the top of your lungs as you crawled yourself to the Captain’s Chair.

Your navigation officer, Ensign Maria Jones, “CAPTAIN!!! We’ve been hit by high level plasma burst. It’s knocked us out of warp into a high velocity spin. Attempting to compensate!” (What she looks like: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail....)

“T’Lar, find out who shot at us! I want damage reports people! Engineering! Give me more power Damnit!”

http://bbsimg.ngfiles.com/1/20188000/ngb... Replied the voice of your Chief engineer Shanene Jones. (No relation to your pilot). “Captain. Main power is offline. Warp Core is currently unstable. Will have to rely on reserve energy til we can re-initialize it.”

“Captain.” Interrupted T’Lar, “Sensors are offline. Life support at minimum. Weapons and shields are at 25% and falling.”

That’s when the flicking screen in front of you showed you an image of http://images.wikia.com/startrek/images/... through the sparks and haze of your damaged bridge.

Who was it?
