Chapter #3

Shifty's proposition.

    by: Unknown
There was no knock, but Robert stiffened when he heard the front door shift as if something had thumped it once and done no more.

Dressed and covered enough to open the door and look out, Robert saw the dark retreating shape of a figure, the same cloaked phantom he had seen before. It was shorter than him or just hunched over. Before he could get any more idea of who or what it wanted, he saw the envelope stuck to the door.

From a secret admirer? Robert mused. Plenty of those.

He shut the door.

Cash in an envelope. Plenty of it, hundreds. Crisp C-notes. Well, Robert had taken money before. Sometimes just to flash.

And a note.

Find it. It was left here. Don’t let HIM get it back. More money if you help.

Scooping up the envelope, Robert sat down to think it over.

Pain. Icy, icy pain.

Coping with dual natures and a transforming body had been all the “teen angst” Robert was used to. Pleasure—-the sensation around which his entire present life was centered—-had become so normal that discomfort brought with it a special sting.

Hernia. The pretty-sounding word with the awful consequences hit him. Could that be it? After what had gone on inside him last night?

As awful as a hernia was, a hernia was normal. Hernias were normal things that happened to normal boys. Robert had seldom thought of his abilities as anything he could bring to a hospital or a doctor.

His last X-Ray had been in a dentist’s office.

He saw the landline phone on the living room table and squeezed his eyes shut. What would he say even if he went through with the desperate, idiotic notion of calling for help?

No doctors! He thought, trying to suppress the pain. No hospitals! No examinations! You know that.
No matter what happens, I can’t call a doctor.

His foster parents had never taken him to a doctor; they simply had not been able to after the age of nine and their combined realization that he was a completely different brand of boy.

If something were wrong with the monster in his pelvis and he were admitted to a hospital, he would never be discharged!

If he lost consciousness, his freak genitalia might act up. What would the paramedics do when they saw? Fight back? Drug him? Tie him down? Call the police?

There was a gun in the house, a carbine. Kept loaded. He knew where it was kept. And if by chance it was unloaded, Robert had a few rounds that fit the weapon. If he had to take that way out, he would.

A fresh wave of pain crashed inside him.

Unaware of what he was doing, Robert crushed the envelope in this grip until it fell from slack fingers. The money and the message and even the stranger who had delivered it forgotten in an upheaval of agony.

“Not this!” Fighting a tide of nausea, Robert pushed himself away from the window. “Not now!”

Something that he could not dismiss had happened to him the night before. He had ingested not one, but two surprise victims. Tommy, by virtue of showing up unexpectedly, and Skyboy for his powers. The crushing weight, the stifling confines and the fluid-filled interior of his body had not been enough to subdue them. Skyboy’s rhythmic buffets against the floor of his bloated prostrate gland had been the most intense trigger to an orgasm Robert had ever felt, but it had only been done to facilitate an escape. For both of them.

And how long would it be before they exposed him? A day? Another few hours?

They had both fled, bursting violently from his innards. Lubricated or no, their combined mass had stretched him to his utmost. Overpowered, exhausted, Robert had no choice except to languish in the water and watch the two escape.

The grabbing, clawing ache he felt in his pelvic cradle made him lose his footing. Uttering a sharp cry, he plunged straight downward, his bent knees nesting in the thick pile carpet. Something rigid was inside him, blocking vital ducts, snagging folds and pinching sensitive nerves. Deep in his lower body. As sweat streamed down his naked skin, the temptation to grab the telephone and call for help crescendoed.

Going to die, Robert thought. Going to die right here. And when they discover what I am...

Suicide. He didn’t know if he could.

Then Robert realized. In the midst of all his agony, he saw it at last.

Skyboy’s bracelet.

Robert let out a purging breath that he had been holding in for a minute.

FIND IT. That’s what the note had said.

So, that bauble had not been the secret to all of Skyboy’s powers, strength or flight. Sucking it off the blond hero’s wrist had not stopped him.

A magic bracelet that could at the very least generate Skyboy’s suit was lodged deep inside him.

What would it be worth?

You have the following choices:

1. Robert retrieves bracelet himself.

*Noteb*
2. Robert opens to door to Shifty Man.

*Noteb*
3. something else

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
