This choice: "...being moved to an orbiting Ferrion station as we speak!!" • Go Back... "Well, what are we standing around here for? We can't let that mirror to get away from us and fall in their hands, now can we?" Kikader shouted. "Ri, Lanmei, you're with me!! Merido, you're our eyes and ears in case reinforcements come up, and given the gravity of this artifact, no doubt they'll pull no punches."
"Right!!"
"Right!!"
"Right!!"
The three Neju soared off out a chute and into the sky, heading for the utmost reaches of our atmosphere. Meanwhile, Merido was looking at the supercomputer with diligence when she heard the doors behind her open.
"Who!! Wha?! Who goes there?!" she blurts, startled by the intrusion. She then sees Jake and Sally there, along with their parents. "Oh guys, it's you. Don't scare me like that!!" She then says, "I would talk some, but we're on an important op, and I have to keep my eyes peeled for Ferrion reinforcement and hyper jump signals."
"It won't take long... but could you see if you could figure out where this universe's Jake and Sally are?" Jake asked her. "I wouldn't feel right leaving this universe without returning our counterparts to their parents."
Merido fought with her conscience and her sense of duty... "But I have no time... alright... I can run a search in a minimized window..." She pulls up a search engine to run a passive scan for them so she could reserve her focus on the galactic radar.
Up in near space, Lanmei was ripping through the Ferrion vessels and units with her pink energy blades as Kikader zipped around, smashing through the capital vessels blocking the way.
"You'd think their defenses would be tighter. Think it's a trap?"
"Why must everything be a trap? Can't we just be having a good day, Lanmei?" Ri said in her usual pleasant tone.
"I'm likely to agree with Lanmei on this one. Keep your eyes peeled." Suddenly a giant swarm of fighter drones springs out from behind the moon. "Like that!!" Kikader leans back pointing her left leg at the armada, then extends her right leg and tail perpendicular to the rest of her as she lifts her arms up to her sides. "Activate: Galactic Pirouette Assassin!!" Blue energy swirls from her wrists, ankles, and near the tip of her tail and she begins to rotate clockwise. A tornado of blue power sweeps out from the spinning vortex of her right leg and tail as a central bolt of blue lightning flies from her left foot. The giant tornado beam strikes the swarm of drones, beginning to destroy them left and right, and even causing indirect collateral damage to the nearby moon as the lightning creates an orb in the center of the enemy. Then flames shoot from her wrists as she launches forward, and as she neared the dwindling enemy, bladed ribbons of energy spun from her wrists. Finally she flew into the crowd, landing on the orb the lightning was making in the crowd with her left foot, detonating it. A series of explosions rocked the starry skies.
"We can't let the boss show us up, now can we?" Lanmei responds with a grin to Ri. "Got this idea from some of the humans who were taking a break from their patrol one day..." she utters as four Ferrion dreadnoughts converge on her. She hurls several bladed fireballs that suddenly pin all the ships together. Her contrails burst into flames as she raised her right hand over her head. "GIIIIIIIGGGAA......" All the flames shoot into her hand, making a pink fireball bigger than Texas. "DDRRIIILLLLLLL......" She slams her hand down on the fireball, releasing a flash of power, compressing it into a vast conical drill still well over the size of Rhode Island. "BRRREEEEAAAKKKKK!!!" She zips through... Well all us from this reality probably already figured where this was going to go (but hey, who's to say the GAINAX folks wouldn't exist here too?). The four ships exploded from the massive holes in them.
"Impressive, Lanmei, but regulate your power expenditure better. We still have a long ways to go before we catch that ship!!"
"Y... Yes, ma'am..." Lanmei says, slightly dejected.
The sky then fills entirely with silver streaks of light, and almost everything in sight that wasn't a star, planet, or natural satellite exploded. "I cleared a pathway for you Arbiter!!"
"Uh... Um... Good job, Ri." Kikader said shocked. It wasn't the first time seeing Ri's innate power at work, but it always awed her when this sweet virtually pacifist girl released so much power at once.
"You can't be real." Lanmei says to her, jaw agape.
"You said you liked me when I was 'blowing shit up.' You approve, Lanmei?" Ri giggles in that same innocent tone.
"Hell yeah I approve!!"
"Then I am pleased you are pleased..." Ri said blushing and smiling.
"Enough chatter. Now, like I told Lanmei, I want you to better meter your power as well, Ri. I know you have innate talents we don't, but we can't have you tiring yourself out either before we complete the mission!! Now, with the station destroyed, the ship is most likely firing up it's Hyper Warp Gate, and we don't have a vessel equipped with Super Perceptual Teleportation to give pursuit, so it's now or never!!"
Back on Earth, Merido was cheering, as she had watched Ri's attack pretty much eliminate all the hostile threats. "Victory is at hand!! The mirror will back in your hands, kids, before you know... Hey, I got a hit on that search!!"
"Please!! Tell us where our children are!!" this universe's Jake & Sally mom said.
"Alright..." She pulls it up, then cocks a strange face. "That can't be right. It says they're in space... and heading our way..."
Suddenly, a massive blip fills the screen of the galactic radar. "Hey, Merido. What's that?" Sally says, pointing at the blip.
"It better be a computer glitch..." Merido exclaimed nervously. Suddenly, lights came down and alarms sounded, but the lights seemed to make everything darker. "No... Not that... Not a black alert..." Merido muttered with a deep chill in her soul, a single tear running down her cheek.
"What is all this?" Jake yelled.
"I'm scared..." Sally cried clinging to her equivalent to her mother.
"You should be..." Merido uttered solemnly. She opens an image file showing a vessel with thousands of horrific faces and arms, parts that looked like meditating gods, and demonic looking tentacles all over, all the while missile tubes beyond count were also visible. "Grand Imperialis... The Ferrion Ultimate Battleship, and home of the Ferrion system..."
Jake & Sally's dad responds, "It must be a small one, because it doesn't look that..." pointing at the image. Merido quietly points to the screen at its coordinates, showing it roughly 30 light years away.
"To put it bluntly, it is the largest object in the universe not a galaxy itself. It could fit this star system inside tenfold and only be 10% full. It's primary weapons are planets and stars themselves!! The Ferrions call it to the front lines only when they have deemed a system more trouble than it worth, and have decided... to destroy it outright... It destroyed the world I was born on!! My mother lived on..."
"But I saw what you guys can do..." Jake stated.
"Even with the full Neju military might, we've only fought that thing to a draw." Merido sighes. "I'll tell the others... Meanwhile, prepare Earth for evacuation."
"Grand Imperialis?!"
"Why now?!"
"Dammit!! And we were so close!!"
"Merido!! Get as many Earth lifeforms through the gateway and to Neju Prime before Imperialis attacks!! NOW!!"
In the base, Merido had led everyone to the central gateway, where several other Neju had warped in to assist with the evacuation. "So this is it. It's over. They win." Jake growls.
"I want to destroy that thing with every ounce of being in my heart as well Jake, but I know we are simply outgunned..."
Jake then says... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
