The professor arrived at Avengers Mansion meeting his assistant, Regina Powers, a few hundred yards from where the press conference was to be held. Regina was a very striking woman with shoulder-length blond hair and a slight build. She accepted a position with the professor mostly due to the fact that his ideas of gamma research were cutting edge second only to the famous Robert Bruce Banner himself. She had no idea about the gun that he had found and was about to field test on the Hulk himself. She just wanted to meet the man who was the Hulk. There was just something alluring and visceral about a being that was larger than life and had the strength to crush just about anything!
The rain started to increase until it was almost a steady downpour making it very difficult to see. For Professor Keller it was a minor inconvenience at best since he was so close in reaching his ambition. He would not need to see his target, the Hulk, in order to siphon his gamma-spawned strength into the device. The machine would automatically target the gamma source and expunge the radiation from the target into the gun. The rain was delaying the festivities but only by a few minutes. A canopy was set up to keep the Avengers dry from the inclement weather. Though the professor could not see the Hulk, the gun's LED readouts indicated that the gamma levels near the podium were registering at a very high level.
What he did not realize was that Samuel Sterns, the evil Leader and the Hulk's arch-enemy, was planning a bit of revenge on the Hulk himself. The very intelligent Leader had arrived early with some of his synthazoids, pink artificial beings that obeyed his every whim, that were going to spoil the press conference. He had disguised himself as his large cranium which contained his vast mental abilities would've given himself away. His plans for the green goliath were unknown at this point.
With his gun humming at full power, Professor Keller fired the gun in the direction of the gamma source. A white beam struck the Leader in the chest and immediately began siphoning all of the Leader's gamma powers out of his body. His mental might suddenly vanishing, Sterns returned to his normal human form as the beam suddenly became green and retracted the powers back into the gun. The former Leader's minions, no longer under his control, broke off the previous commands of their now former master and wandered aimlessly on the grounds of the Avengers.
The gun's lights flashed indicating that the beam had captured all of the gamma radiation from its intended target. Chuckling to himself, the professor flipped the switch to project the gamma radiation from the gun into himself. As he pulled the trigger, a shocked Regina grabbed the end of the gun and moved it away from the professor. "Professor! What are you doing with this gun?"
