There was a face looking in. It wasn't a bad looking face, though it was a bit pale, as if the owner didn't get out in the sun a lot. And it might have even been a friendly looking face, if it weren't as big (or bigger!) than the eight cheerleaders inside the aquarium looking out at it.
It tool Courtney (and the other seven cheerleaders) a moment to recognize the face. It belong to Harvey Slater, the school genius.
Harvey wasn't a bad guy, and was always willing to help out. He was especially helpful to the cheerleaders with their school work. He didn't just do their homework either. He took the time and found a way to explain homework and other projects so the girls understood what they were supposed to learn. If the teachers could only explain it half as well as Harvey, the cheerleaders probably wouldn't have needed his help.
And in return for his help. the girls made sure that no one picked on Harvey. They even helped Harvey date the science and math geek girls. Of course, Harvey would have liked to date one of the cheerleaders, but that wasn't going to happen. The cheerleaders were simply way out of Harvey's league. Even Courtney, who was the youngest and, among the cheerleading squad, the most average looking, was still one of the hottest girls in the school. Harvey had approached her for a date a couple of times, just for that reason;. Finally the girls had to sit down with Harvey and tell him that it just wasn't going to happen. He was a nice guy, and not bad looking, but he was kind of weird, and always working on projects like robots and stuff.
Courtney was the first to get the nerve to talk to the staring Harvey.
"Harvey, what did you do to us?" she asks.
"Oh, I shrunk you all down to approximately six inches," Harvey responded, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "Fifteen centimeters, to be precise, but nobody likes using the metric system. And you're the only one who is actually fifteen centimeters tall, Courtney. The rest of the squad is off by a few millimeters, depending on their initial height."
At this point Harvey begins droning on about how he bypassed the law of conservation, and some cubed law, and other things, but Courtney isn't listening. She's six inches tall now! How could that happen? Well, Harvey is explaining how it could happen, but he might as well be speaking gibberish now. The important thing is he has shrunken Courtney and the rest of the cheerleaders. If it had been anybody else, Courtney would have thought this was all some elaborate prank. But since it was Harvey, she had no choice but to accept it for real.
The only thing that remained was, to find out WHY Harvey chose to shrink him.
