Natalie had been unusually inactive the last few days since filming had finished. She wasn't upset, or intentionally trying to take it easy, she just had nothing particular important lined up. There were some gettogethers with friends, and a few parties too, but those were coming up and gave her some much needed free time. She most hung around home reading. She was looking forward to getting out though, and as often happens just when she started getting bored and itching for work, she received a call from Shelley, mother and agent to Natalie.
She was reading while having a light snack. Then again, the slim young actress only ever had light snacks, both reflecting that she was a vegetarian and quite conscious of keeping herself fit.
"Hi, mom," she answered her phone, somehow knowing that this wasn't a normal call to chat, "What's up?"
"Oh, things are good, just that we haven't heard from you in a few days and thought maybe something was wrong. Nothing's wrong, is it?"
"No, mom, everything's fine. I've just been taking it easy," Natalie put her book down and, despite nobody being there to see it, rolled her eyes and smiled at her mother's words.
"Well, good. Your father is doing well, too. Well, I have a small job if you're interested, just a few commercials. You interested? It's good to get some tasteful publicity, you know."
She didn't need to convince Natalie. She knew her mom would never recommend anything that wasn't good for her career. For all her faults Shelley was a good agent and a good mother. She could be trying at times, Natalie knew all too well, but weren't all parents sometimes?
"Mm, what's the product?" Natalie asked, lying back.
