It called to him. Was this what the Misterian had meant by choosing his own destiny? It just felt so right, as if he was drawn to it, and as he worked, he dreamt about how he could juggle life and death. His brand new weapon, his ticket back home.
Shadow grinned when the finished product of the Sharpening was complete. After almost an hour of almost burning his entire hand off and feeling the hot sparks fly dangerously close to his face, Jame's newly christened sword had.. not turned out as cool as he would have liked.
Holding the sharpened weapon that looked a lot like a fancy culinary blade then a divine weapon, the Earth-born experienced shame and embarrassment for what felt like the hundredth time that day. Especially when Shadow brandished his own weapon, a blunt blade with cloudy-looking gems decorating the pommel and crossguard.
The trainer smirked. "A bit on the short side."
James wasn't sure if he could ever be anything but a laughingstock to him or any of the other Misterians. The Great Queen and Princess of Skyaira had been kind enough, but they did believe in life debts, honor and respect was a life code here.
"But as you've seen, experiences can be deceiving here. Especially coming from someone like you." Shadow continued boasting. At least, they were consistent. James had only experienced this world for a short amount of time and he could already see a life here of constantly being second guessed and looked down upon by the Misterians who were so concerned with pure bloodlines. And this training so he could pass some extraordinary test for just a single day back on Earth? It was the type of nonsense that just made him want to fight even more.
"Alright dude, what's next?" James held Candlestick in his hands, realizing he better quickly change the name before it permanently stuck. He flicked his wrist around, feeling the individual parts of the blade, sending a jolt down his wrist and through his arm. Even with a goofy slender design, whatever flowed through this weapon was real and he felt his confidence grow slightly, at the possibility of using this power and learning to wield it.
Taken slightly aback, Shadow clapped his hands together.James had never seen him look so pleased with himself. At first he thought the Misterian was excited that the weapon was generating an energy for him. But he was oblivious, as far as James could tell, and was actually just very excited about what was going to happen next.
"Now that you have a weapon, it is our soulbound tradition to use it right away. To truly bring it to life with the spirit and blood of a first battle."
"Wait! I don't know..." James gripped Candlestick and turned around, as if his foe would appear from behind him. His senses began to go into overdrive and he hoped he could use his puny weapon better than he thought so far.
Shadow's voice rose up in volume. "Sword up! It is time to face up against..."
