"Alex, look, I appreciate it, but I don't really need you to protect me. I'm ten times more powerful than Superman, for goodness sake," Mark said.
A look of anxiety formed on Alex's pretty face. Alex realized that she needed something to protect Mark from! She had two options. She could either power him down or power someone else up. She didn't want to power him down. She was trying to get him to love her of his own free will, after all, so doing something like that might be counterproductive. That left one option.
"Ring, make Superman twice as strong as Mark and looking for revenge."
Suddenly, a huge, powered-up, hulking Superman appeared in the sky. "Mark," he said in a deeper, more masculine voice, "It's time for me to return the favor." He cracked his knuckles.
Mark looked a little worried about Superman's new, more muscular appearance, but knew that he was so much stronger than the Man of Steel that it shouldn't matter. He flew up to meet Superman.
Mark struck first, launching a fist into Superman's incredibly cobbled abs. His fist stopped cold with a resounding *thud* against Superman's bricks of abdominal muscle, their ultra-defined fibers twenty times stronger now than the last time they had faced off.
Superman smirked, then swung his fist into Mark's stomach with all his considerable might. Mark doubled over in pain, retching.
"No one can defeat me." Superman cocked his fist again and swung, when Super Alex suddenly appeared between them. Superman's fist clanged off diamond hard abs.
"Think again, Wonderboy," Super Alex swung a roundhouse into Superman's temple, driving him downward with supersonic speed until he cratered into the ground.
Unbeknownst to Alex, however, her blow to Superman's indestructible head had dislodged the ring from her finger and it fell toward the ground...
...right onto Supergirl's finger as she flew up from below. Superman had called his cousin for backup after his initial confrontation with Mark, and she had just determined their location and arrived.
Supergirl looked at the ring in surprise, as she somehow instinctively knew that it was the most powerful artifact she had ever seen. She didn't have time for that right now, however. She needed to take care of this girl that had just pounded Kal into the ground. She put on speed, flying directly into Super Alex.
The two met with explosive force. When the concussive wave subsided, Alex looked fine, and Supergirl looked dazed. Alex took advantage of Supergirl's stunned state by sending an uppercut into the beautiful blond's jaw, knocking her a half mile away, her beautiful form tumbling upward into the sky.
Seeing stars and feeling as if her jaw might be broken, Supergirl tried to clear her head. Focus, Kara, you need to think clearly right now, she told herself. Suddenly, her head was clear. There wasn't any pain. She could think! How?
She realized that it must be the ring whose power she had felt earlier! She somehow knew that the ring had granted her implicit request. Did you do that? she thought to the ring. Yes, came the ring's reply. What else can you do? Kara thought. Anything except change my nature. Just think it, and it will be.
Hmmm... she thought. What is it that I want?
