Ramona was your friend, and the first one that you made on this planet. You didn't want to hurt her feelings by standing her up. As much as it hurt you, you did what you had to do.
"Sorry Chloe," you say. "I promised my friend Ramona that I'd hang out with her on Saturday."
You didn't notice that hearing Ramona's name perked Chloe's attention for a half a second, so you continue talking.
"I hope you're not upset or anything." you say.
"No, it's fine." she says. "I think it's nice that you're loyal to your friend. We can meet up some other time."
It was nice that Chloe wasn't mad at you. Now you didn't have to worry about a thing. The days pass, and you and Chloe become good friends, while you also hang out with Ramona and Colin. However, it was weird that whenever you were with Chloe, Ramona wasn't around, and vise-versa. Saturday night had arrived, and you walked over to Ramona's house. You see her waiting for you by her front porch.
"How long were you waiting?" you ask her.
"Only two minutes." she replies before the two of you head out.
"So why did you pick Saturday of all days to hang out with me?" you ask.
"It's 'cause my mom planned on bringing her boyfriend over and I was not gonna be around that." she says with a shudder.
"What do you mean by that?" you ask.
"Ever since my parents got divorced, Mom's been trying to 'fill the void' if you get what I mean." Unfortunately, you did get it. "I feel more sorry for her than I am disgusted by her." she adds.
"Where's your dad?" you ask.
"He moved to another town. I basically switch between Mom and Dad's houses every two weeks." Ramona explains.
"Oh." was all you could say. "By the way, where are we going?" you ask.
"To the park, I want to show you something." she answers.
"Alright." you say.
The two of you arrive at the park and Ramona leads you to a small path through the woods. At the end of the path was a big lake lit up by the stars. You both sit at the edge of the lake.
"Is this what you wanted to show me?" you ask.
"Yeah." she answers. "My dad always told me that one day, I would find someone that I felt would be really close to me, and if I found that person, I should bring them here."
"Wow." you say. "Well, it is true that we're best friends." That was the first time you actually admitted it. Ramona was your best friend. She was there for you since the day she met you.
"[Your name]," Ramona says, "Did you ever wonder why I was always so nice to you?" she asks.
"Because we're friends." you answer.
"Well, that's true," she says. "But I....." she trailed off, not knowing what to say. You look at Ramona, and she looks at you. Then she quickly wraps her arms around you and plants a soft, deep kiss on your lips. You were shocked! You didn't know that Ramona felt this way about you. What do you do?
