How about a story that takes place in a very...unique kind of college to say the least. In the mid 1970s in a world where magic still exist, there's a college that resembles a large Japanese Temple known as Muramasa College hidden away somewhere in the USA. This institution has existed since the Edo period and only those with promising Magical abilities even knew about the existence of the college let alone apply for it. Once accepted girls from all around the world are study and train to better themselves with their unique magical abilities. Whether it be to become a expert magic Assassin, those who wished to become strong magical fighters that would eventually go into to fight in underground Magical Fighting League, those who wanted to hone their skills in order to later use their magic to further their own wealth, social standing or lifestyle, or even those who were simply intrigued or just wanted to better control their powers.
However, the founder of the College Sakura Muramasa had a firm belief that only the strongest and most dominate girls should be able to graduate from the college. Thus students were allowed to kill other students to thin the competition and to prove their power and dominance. Even faculty members weren't immune from this and had to keep a close eye out. Thus it wasn't uncommon for students and even some teachers to try and murder each other for a multitude of reasons. Though others preferred making others subservient to them either by brute force or using their powers. Thus, even though this school was an extremely dangerous one to go to but many still applied every year for their own reasons.
Or if that's a little bit too much for you how about going to Divine Shine Academy in the fantasy modern continent of Bahamut inhabited by both humans and fantastical creatures like Goblins, Trolls, Kobolds and even Succubus, a college tailored for those with Dupes. Dupes were something with spiritual being that some people could summon to assist them in a variety of ways. Outside of all Dupes having a humanoid frame, Dupes could have drastically different appearances and powers. Thus many different Dupe users from a different pool of species came to this academy in order to better their own powers for a variety of reasons.
Or perhaps none of these appeal to you and you wish to make your own world.
