Leroy was strolling down the shopping district. He was on his way home from another day of school. Miss Acord had been a regular battle-axe as usual. She had been busting his chops on the reading assignment they were apparently supposed to do, which he had (of course) forgotten about. It was such a drag, the teacher was going for his balls on every chance she could get. The worst thing was that he'd be stuck with her for at least another year. He sighed, school was becoming a little bit more like hell with every passing day. He was going to need some serious relaxing when he got home.
"Oh look. It's the kid with the rich imagination." Someone spoke up. Leroy broke from his pondering and looked around. A formal looking man was leaning on a fence by the side of the road.
"Excuse me?" Leroy hadn't seen the man before in his life. "Were you talking to me?"
"Yup. Leroy, right?" The man got up from the fence and walked over to him. "You're one crazy kid, I'll give you that." He gave Leroy a secretive grin.
"Here. I'm supposed to give you this." He fished out a crumpled up shopping bag from under his coat and handed it over. "Have fun and take care." He moved two fingers to his forehead as an informal salute and walked away, leaving Leroy with the bag.
He looked in the bag, pulling out an ornate whip. "Hey, neat..." It was braided with black leather straps, becoming more delicate towards the tip and ending in a small piece of partially unraveled string. He unrolled it, checking out it's full length. About 6 feet. A little short for a bullwhip, but easier to handle. He tried walloping a nearby lantern. A metallic ring pierced the air as the whip made contact. He was surprised at how little an effort it took, the whip practically thrashed itself.
He continued playing with the whip on the way back, looking for targets he could practice on. It was unbelievable, the whip didn't miss it's target once. He placed a few soda cans on a wall, and knocked them off one by one pretending they were the head of Miss Acord. Every time a can was hurled through the air, he let out a delighted cheer.
